Taxi CEO Michael Laskow Gets Gold Record
[The band has since presented Laskow with a Platinum Album! — Editor] TAXI CEO Michael Laskow has received a lot of Gold records throughout his career, including Firefall and Neil Young. But when Crossfade presented him with a Gold record for its debut self-titled album, it was something special.

"This one meant more to me than all the rest because it's an act I've seen go from unsigned to signed, and signed to gold," Laskow said.

Not only did the album sell a half a million records to become Gold, but the album is rapidly approaching Platinum. Laskow believes the band's success validates TAXI's process. TAXI was directly responsible for Crossfade getting hooked up with their manager (former TAXI A&R staffer Chris Long) and one of the top music attorneys in the business.

Crossfade's Ed Sloan also credits TAXI with getting the band's music outside of South Carolina, where the band originally performed.

"I searched the Internet one day looking for a way to find somebody else that could help me do that, and TAXI was the only company around that had a solid reputation and that had connections. So I decided to give it a shot. I didn't know how long it was going to last or how long I would do it, but I wound up a member of TAXI for four to five years," Sloan said.

Sloan also found that TAXI improved his songwriting: "[TAXI] showed me a different way just to look at the music, to look at it more in the sense of the consumer aspect. Not just the consumer aspect, but to get out of my musician-kind of mentality and step back and look at it from somebody who just wants to enjoy music."

Since joining TAXI, things have only gotten better for Crossfade. The band performed on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and has now earned a Gold record.

"I feel the band is very deserving of this record not only because they are incredibly nice guys, but they've worked so hard to achieve this milestone and continue to work incredibly hard to support their album," Laskow said.
