I’m a news media photographer and songwriter who happens to be dyslexic. I’ve been playing music since I was little with my father, who had bands until his death in 2007. I took a break after that for a bit, music didn’t hold the same punch without him. I’m happy to say, I’ve found my way back and I’m ready to go after the things I’ve always wanted to achieve.
I grew up in Webster, FL where most of my family still live. I moved to Cambridge, MA in 2017. I now spend time in both places. I enjoy the city, but love being back home as well. I miss doing the outdoor stuff I adore when I’m in the city. Especially being around all the animals.
I’m also disabled—I have scoliosis, lordosis, and kyphosis. What does that mean? Well, I’m 4’11”, but I should be roughly 5’8”, so I’m a little squished—but I’ve still got the arms and legs of someone who’s 5’8”.
Sometimes I use a mobility wheelchair, and sometimes I walk. I’ve had to find a balance in my day-to-day life in doing the things I love while also respecting the limitations my body places on me.
I play mostly by ear. I can play guitar, and drums but have also been learning to play lap steel guitar, fiddle and refreshing my keyboard skills. It’s been a little tricky on some things because a few years ago, I lost some of my hearing. It’s been a unique challenge for sure! Music has always been my safe haven and the one thing that always brings me pure joy. Needless to say, I’m also now learning sheet music!
