Tyler Street

Born and raised in Texas, I grew up making music. In my youth, I would drum alongside my grandmother’s cheerful piano playing at family holidays. She ignited a light in me for music that would never go out. As time went on, I studied guitar formally, including the traditions of jazz and blues. I was obsessed. But, I yearned to tell my own story. Then life led me in a different direction. I went to medical school and trained as a surgeon, putting music on the back burner. By midlife a piece of me was missing. I was called back to my roots and my need to create. I started writing music again in an effort to connect. It wasn’t until I got really personal that the inspiration came fully through. For me, singing about past loves, bad breakups, and the 9 to 5 grind just wasn’t authentic. I needed to go deeper. A spark of curiosity led me to explore where music really comes from when we are truly inspired. I developed a practice of meditating then writing. When I was completely open, I could allow whatever needed to bubble up. This started a practice I called “Lightning Bottle”, where I recorded myself in the moment spontaneously creating music. And I haven’t stopped since. Now, I have shifted my energy to music more fully. And I write, record and release music regularly that comes straight from the heart.

I’m trying to reimagine what having an impact as an artist looks like. I focus on making music with meaning that spans genres. And I share that process on social media with releases monthly on all music platforms. My goal is to build a community around art that strives for deeper meaning and that mirrors our path in life.
