Johnny Rock Band BIO_ 2025
“We call it Beach Party Rock, and we bring the beach party to wherever we play” Tate Sanderson
Since 2016 - California based “Johnny Rock Band” has been playing a mixture of genre's (Ska, Reggae, surf-punk, funk, blues, Hawaiian Style, a little bit of country and a lot of rock & roll) creating a beach party rock sound. Original songs with a story, a hook and sometimes a little comedy. Then they add a few re-arranged, customized cover tunes.
Throwing beach balls and frisbee’s out and pass around lei’s to the audience, as well as providing custom puppet heads available at front of stage. There’s always a few fans that come up and wear them as they dance to the tunes. A group with guitar driven music, solid rhythm section, a ton of energy, costumes, and beach-vibe stage props. It’s an interactive experience you won't forget.
Front man Tate Sanderson (Johnny Rock) since 1984 has performed, recorded and jammed with musicians from/and with bands including; Green Jello (still playing in Green Jello at select shows), Dirty Looks, Fishbone, Black Flag, Tesla, Iron Butterfly, Gary Hoey, The Motels, Black Crowes, Beebs, Saints We Ain’t, Sticky Situation, The Pumps… and more, including a video aired on MTV "One Bad Leg" while with Dirty Looks courtesy of Sony/Rockworld
Records.
See the article about Johnny Rock in “Encinitas Magazine” June issue 2024 and the hard cover book “Encinitas Our History and People” in Contents, under “Local Legends”. Playing all over Hollywood and touring the US, Mexico and in Japan, Tate acquired endorsement deals with Dean Guitars, Carvin, Sabine, Nady, Jim Dunlop plus more and recently adding local sponsors including Encinitas Surfboards, AleSmith Brewing, Anvil of Hope…
The name “Johnny Rock Band” first materialized in 2016 when Tate Sanderson had just released his new Rockumentary/Biography book “Johnny Rock Tales From The Road” “A Life of Rock & Roll”, it was selling well out of the trunk of his car and a few local book stores. So his current group adopted the name (and it looked cool having a book about the band). The book is still stocked @ Amazon.com and there are copies available to have signed at “LIVE” JRB performances. The new movie-book “Tales From the Road - 2nd Edition” is out now on Amazon and select book stores, with QR codes connecting you to the movie, videos and other special scenes.
The Johnny Rock Band just finished working on a new album “The Good Life” at Pacific Beat Recording with Producer Alan Sanderson who earned a Grammy working with “Switchfoot” and has credits on albums with “The Rolling Stones”, “Fleetwood Mac”, “Meatloaf”, “Fiona Apple” and many more. You can find “The Good Life” album and their previous albums "Holiday Rockin' W/Johnny Rock" and "Beach Party Rock" plus a few singles including "Hotdog On A Stick Song", "I Like Tacos" and "Back In Encinitas" on-line wherever you buy or listen to your music (I-tunes, Spotify, Etc.).
Their past sound recordings and videos are all written, produced and edited at Music Music Studios in Encinitas, CA. They have high quality, full motion picture videos, Lyric videos, and Live videos for most of their songs with over 90 videos published on YouTube, as well as a strong presence on FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, ReverbNation, Vimeo, Daily Motion and more.
