Hugo McLaughlin

Hugo McLaughlin is a performing pianist and successful composer based in Calgary, Canada, with a long list of credits that span a wide range of genres and media formats. His music has been featured on hundreds of TV shows worldwide, including reality and scripted series, as well as sports placements in NFL football, MLB baseball (including World Series games), and collegiate football and basketball. Hugo is currently scoring films, with his latest project winning the People’s Choice Award at its debut film festival in Australia. His music has appeared on nearly a hundred networks, including CBS, ABC, NBC, BBC, Fox Sports, ESPN, Netflix, Showtime, MTV, E!, Oxygen, HBO, History Channel, Bravo, and Discovery. He studied music and computer applications in music at McGill University in Montreal and has been living in Calgary, Alberta since 1995.

As a composer, his focus is on Instrumental hybrid orchestral music in styles that span hip hop, action, tension and rock. His more romantic side brings out piano-focused music with sorrowful and evocative piano melodies that are always featured prominently in his arrangements.

Hugo has been co-writing songs with contemporary artists in styles ranging from pop to country. Several of his songs have been recorded by performing artists, including the French-Canadian hit “Je t’attendrai”. He also closely collaborates with various composers from around the world.

Hugo’s solo piano performances have taken him across Canada, to Europe and as far South as Las Vegas. He spent several years as a pianist at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and currently works as a pianist, producer, composer, arranger, teacher, and accompanist.

For over 20 years, Hugo has been CEO and co-founder of KLM Stage and Musician Services, a company that operates music schools and supplies equipment for concerts, festivals, as well as touring and performing musicians. He sold the business at the end of 2019 to focus his energy on composing music for tv and film.
