Mary Cole and Greg Garrett started writing songs in 1999. By 2001, their first CD of seventeen songs sung by award-winning Canadian country singer, Emily Fennell, was in the local stores and doing well.
After joining Taxi and then Broadjam, Mary and Greg have been finding continued success.
In 2005, two Cole/Garrett swing songs, produced by Jef Vandertogt, were acquired by Inter Music Library in Los Angeles.
In 2006, all three submitted songs, sung by Ken Post and Lori Dortono and recorded at Pinnacle Music Studios by Ken Harnden, namely "Grist for the Mill", "Love's Fools Must Dream Alone" and "House of Cards", reached the semi-finals of the UK Songwriting Contest.
In December 2006, Mary and Greg were named Runners-up for Canada in the songwriting category of The International Music Awards 2006 at musicaid.org. The song submitted was "House of Cards"
In 2007, Mary and Greg again reached the semi-finals of the UK Songwriting Contest with the song, "No Words Needed", sung by Lori Dortono. Mary singing "That Grief Passed Away:So May This" received Highly Commended status.
In 2008, Mary sang "This Road is Going Nowhere" and reached the semi-finals of the UK Songwriting Competition.
Mary and Greg released their last album, Cole & Garrett Songwriters Album 3 in April of 2014 on iTunes and Amazon. Greg has now retired from the partnership and Mary continues writing as Mary Grimley, Songwriter. Mary currently uploads lyric videos to Youtube at COLEGARRETTSONGS
