Brehnan began his musical journey as a young boy, aspiring to the play the drums (his hands were too small to play the guitar). From Christmas of '97 onward he's been developing, not just as a drummer, but as a musician. After high school, Brehnan moved to Lexington, KY where he attended the Lexington School for Recording Arts, learning about studio recording, live sound, and artist development. At this time he was also working in a rock band with his brother, cousin, and a various friends. Though the band ultimately failed, it was a valuable learning experience that allowed him to apply much of what he had studied about production and business. Later on, Brehnan relocated to Louisville, KY to attend the University of Louisville School of Music where he studied Jazz performance under the tutelage of the finest players in the region. It was here where he also developed a passion for arranging, composition, and teaching. Since moving to Louisville, Brehnan has worked regularly as a sideman, playing in a variety of styles including jazz, rock, and top 40, as well as teaching privately most days of the week. When he's not working Brehnan enjoys spending time with his family and friends, reading, or going out to hear some good jazz.
