A gifted singer, writer, multi-instrumentalist, and sometimes rapper, James’ main instrument is bass. James learned his craft playing with avant-garde Jazz-fusion and traditional and contemporary Jazz groups and ensembles, establishing himself as one of the best electric bassists in Michigan with the Ann Arbor fusion band Aldebaran. A student of Morris Lawrence and Eastern Michigan University, James also gigged frequently with Johnny Lawrence, Flip Jackson, Ars Nova, also Vince York, and many others in various genres including, R&B, Rock, Gospel, and Top-40.

James A. Kilkenny, DBA KILCO Productions, established the KILCO Production studio in 1989 for Music, Jingle, and Commercial Production. Today, James has produced music for the Gospel play “Home Boy”, music projects “Russia”, “Jesus is Lord”, “Gospel Odyssey 2002”, “Gospel Odyssey 2003”,”God wants someone to love Him”, “A Divine Romance: The To-Sheng Ensemble Live”; poetry CD: “Anointed Moments”; Broadcast radio project “The Tuskegee Airmen: Living Legends of African-American History”; A boatload of songs in various genres, including RnB, Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Pop, Country, House, Hip-house, Rap, and "uncategorizeable". James has also composed and produced countless jingles pieces for various clients including Quicken Loans, Bricker-Tunis Furs, various Michigan Ford and GM dealers, and others.
