A rock band nearly 20 years in the making, The Wandering Off, comprised of Emily and Kyle Corner have a long history behind the scenes and backstage in the music industry. In 2023 they stepped onto the stage and into the spotlight with the release of their debut, full length, self-titled album.
T.W.O as they fittingly abbreviate are a duo set to ignite a revival of raw, gritty quirky alternative rock. 90’s kids pulling from their earliest influences, Hole, Letters to Cleo, Third Eye Blind to capture a spectrum of rock sounds. An experiment that took shape in a home-built studio during the pandemic the duo crafted and produced the album recruiting sound wizard, Warne Livesey and drummer Blake Manning to finish at famed Noble Street Studios. Their debut single "Hey There," reminiscent of Sheryl Crow, carries a powerful message about not taking life too seriously, earning recognition as a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting competition (Rock Category) and being picked up on radio stations internationally.
The duo, now husband and wife, have been wandering behind the scenes since 2005, but most memorable was their 2010 engagement working for Sarah McLachlan’s 2010 Lilith Fair. No strangers to concert production, Emily and Kyle have been behind the scenes on some of the biggest Canadian music festivals in the past two decades. Their life in music has spanned across working for Universal Music, as booking agents, and assembling massive festivals supporting artists, and now putting themselves and their art in front.
In an era of singles and EP’s, The Wandering Off took the bold step and “old school” approach to release a 12-track full length album. Fans of the era of listening to an album front to back, releasing a body of work was important to the group. Gritty, cheeky, raw songs singing about lived experiences, deep and confessional on mental health, judgement and uncensored lyrics. Perhaps the second single and 5th song on the album “F Off”, demonstrates the duo’s cavalier attitude and sense of humour. “F Off” is a cheeky anthem, bright and bold offering listeners permission to sing their feelings when that person, place or thing pushes that brash expression to the surface.
Each with a quarter note tattooed behind their ears, music has been a constant thread for the two, who have wandered from behind the scenes to the stage.
