Skip McDowell

My career started off the advent of punk music in the UK in 1977. I formed my first band with George Williamson. Many gigs up and down the UK, eventually the Mod Scene became my genre. This took George and myself to busk across Europe and to learn to write songs. Having resided in Germany for almost a year, we came home with a demo of our original recorded by a well known German Producer who had spotted us busking. I personally presented a demo to Paul Weller of the Jam and Style Council, who was impressed and within a year we had a Record Deal in 1983 with Cherry Red Records and Albion Publishing. After a moderate hit single ( top 100) in the UK, top 50 in Japan, our record company went broke. I continued to tour with my band (Skip and the Reflections) till 1987 appearing on compilation albums with the likes of R.E.M, The Specials, Billy Bragg, The Clash and toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe. Being disillusioned with current music and political scene in Britain, I returned to the land of my birth, hence my nickname Skip, Australia and have been performing and recording with artists such as the late Paul Hester of Crowded House, Daniel Jones (Savage Garden). I have been close on many occasions to landing a deal as a singer/songwriter Recording Artist whilst doing constant gigs, covers and originals all over Australia. Now I am more than happy to let other younger artists accessibility to my extensive catalogue of original songs of any genre.
