John Dorman
Henderson, Nevada
Hi, My name is John Dorman, and I started Playing guitar at age 12 or 13. II started out playing melodies like Outer Limits and Pipeline. I remember looking at the frets and the strings and thinking of all the things you could do on the instrument. Then I started learning Beatles and Rolling Stone songs and other songs in the mid 1960's. Then I was learning soloing, and I was having a ruff time figuring out the Blues scale and what scale to play when. I was developing my ear trying to learn songs off the record, then Jimmy Henderix, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton came out, and we would go around LA looking at bands which really got me going. I started taking guitar lessons for a year in 11th grade, and I learned how to read music and some classical Guitar and some theory. We had started a garage band and did a few gigs at schools and other places. I moved to the beach when I got out of High School, and we form a band there and played Blues, Surf Music, and Chuck Berry songs, around Lucadia north of San Diego. I took some Music courses there like Jazz, Theory, clarinet. I moved back to LA area went to community college in Whittier. I was getting interested in film Music about that time. I took Theory and Musicianship and the teacher was really good and pushed us to writing in all the periods of western Music starting with gregoian chant to todays music. I got in a top 40's or cover bands playing all around LA and San Diego while going to school, we played a lot of clubs and where ever you could get a gig. I transferd to Cal State Fullerton around 1974 and took a lot of Music courses there. We were playing around and I got thi gig playing in a trio on Princes Cruses for a few months and that was a good time going from Canada down through the Panama canal and around the Virgin Island but I learned some Jazzy standards. I had to quit school for a while I started giving Lessons for a while and working in this church band for a while and had a union day job. After I retired I got a computer and took classes on using the soft ware I bought and and I fell in Love with all the things you could do, so I learned as much ass I could and I got a long way to go. This friend told Me about TAXI and it sounded great and I hope I can learn and do as much as I can.
