John Van Dyke is a classically trained opera singer and composer who left the world of classical music to form a band with his brothers. After three albums and several national tours supporting acts like, Wilco, Semisonic, Spoon and many others, the brothers slowly moved to other interests, John kept music as a focus in his work with dying patients and used music therapy as a tool to assist hospice patients throughout the country. John's life would take a major turn back towards music when childhood trauma, spent years locked inside, suddenly came out. While he describes himself as a "horrible therapy patient" and says the environment didn't allow for a comfortable place to open up. "I began writing songs for the sole purpose of working through some feelings. They were much too personal and easy to write to be consumed by anyone else, so I literally just made it part of my therapy. I'd work on songs and then have a concert in the forest, or a park at midnight." He said, while it seems silly, it's important to put them out there as a finished product. "For me, no type of music was off limits, no rules on what is cool to say or not, it was like total freedom to fuck up or miss on a melody or whatever. It didn't matter and what I found is that I was pumping out songs and hearing melodies again in the coolest way and most exciting way as a songwriter. Now, to finish something it's hard to pick what to work on and motivate to finish. As he begins selling songs for sync placements, he writes for producers and his band the Wonsers as well, scheduled to release new music in the coming year. For John this new era ushers in a world or musical possibilies. Always a fiercely independent artist, it is a much more popular platform than it used to be. A one stop shop with hundreds of songs, John writes and publishes his own works and is a one stop shop. He also helps songwriters and non songwriters assistance with writing songs as therapy.
