Slightly offbeat and gifted Frank Porter should already be a name you know. He's got 3 international songwriting awards (2020, 2022 and 2023. Epiphone/Gibson named him best lead guitarist out of 320 people from 6 states at House of Guitars in Rochester, NY in 2008 and he's still got those award winning guitar licks. He's much more than an amazing lead guitarist. He's trying to get Slash to battle him in an acoustic guitar lead guitar battle. So far no luck. This came about because Frank's wife, who is not a rocker and comes from an Irish music background, found a recent video of Slash playing acoustic guitar solos on his acoustic tour. She told Frank she saw someone playing like him. She did not know it was Slash. She did figure it out and told Frank about what Slash is up to with an acoustic guitar. Good stuff really! however, if you know Slash could you let him know I want an acoustic lead guitar battle with him preferably on blues or blues rock songs. And very early on his original music caught the ears of Elektra Records. Decades before any awards. Upstate New York years (1977-1990) - He literally went from tennis racquet to guitar in 1977. His father told him, "If you're serious, you'll have to wait a year and then I will get you a guitar."
The point is Frank didn't recently get interested and grow a passion for writing and performing his original songs, as well as quite a few classic rock cover songs that he dusts his sets with when in the mood. For the purposes of this profile, "I would like to mention that I have released demo recordings under the name, "Midnight Gypsies." Turns out there was already a band with that name so the one to search for is called, "Passion & Fire." These songs can be used but would need to be re-recorded. One of them, "Moon in The Sky," is the song that got Elektra Records interested. I would recommend, "All The Way," too while you're there. Frank wrote the music and did the arrangements on both of these 4 track cassette deck recordings."
Again, for purposes of this specific bio I feel like this is a good bit of information about myself. I have other songs. One of them currently is doing something that has never happened before. It's certainly not the Billboard Charts I am speaking about but, on an undisclosed and fairly active original music based webpage that I've been on for quite some time something finally happened. One of my newest original songs has made it into the top ten on the global acoustic rock charts. Earlier today (3/30/2025) it was sitting at number one. Again. Since December of 24 it's been in the top 10 on that chart. This is what really motivated me to spend money I don't have on Taxi today. I also have a song that is officially released called, Spirit of The Led Starship." A 9-plus minute instrumental that is all me. I am playing every instrument. It made it into top rotation on the NetRadio app which pays royalties. (yay!).
I am hoping to become even more of a professional with my experience on Taxi. Please check out my current page at www.frankporteracoustic.com and please understand that there's a new page under construction that will not be my facebook artist page. For now this works. Stay tuned. Good things are happening obviously. There's so much more that I could write but, I don't want to overload you. Just know that I've been around a long time, I played CBGB's (more than once) at one point and I am still here and I am working on a double length studio album currently among other projects. I have a label and publishing company called Tree Fort Tunes. I like to be busy. Yes taking breaks are important too but...
So, to summarize - crazy old award winning musician wants to break in to the licensing part of the business. Maybe you will be the one who helps me get there. One thing that just jumped in to my head is that most of my recordings are indie or demo quality. Some are more professionally produced. I state this here now so you realize I don't think the production is where I would prefer it to be on too many of my recordings. This does not have an effect on the quality of the songwriting. So it's about the songs ultimately.
And one final thought, I am seeking a manager who can really do something for me. As an artist. I am not sure if you know the story of Zeppelin's manager, Peter Grant. If you are familiar with his story, I believe someone like him would get me and understand how to work what I have going on at the moment. I am referring to my performances in addition to the original song sector of my life firing up late in the game with the song staying in the top ten. Let's make that happen on the Billboard charts! Again, I hope to do something special.
