'80s COVER SONGS AND INSTRUMENTALS a la The Go-Go's, The Bangles, J. Geils Band, are wanted by the owner of a new masters library to supply compositions for Film and TV placements, Video Games, Toy products, Hallmark music cards, etc. This gentleman was the head of the library division of a major music publisher and is now branching out on his own, so you are in good hands. He is specifically looking for new arrangements and NOT copies or sound-alikes. He suggested picking a particular artist or band and then combining it with other artist/band styles, therefore making it somewhat familiar to the ear while creating a new and unique sound. He also said if the original was sung by a male, try it with a female lead or try something like taking a song with full instrumentation and doing it acoustic. Overall, you have the liberty to make a new arrangement and to make it interesting, just keep the original song recognizable. The one thing he was adamant about is making sure that you DO NOT ALTER THE LYRICS in any way. Some suggested songs to cover are "Vacation" and "We've Got the Beat" by the Go-Go's, "I Melt With You" by Modern English, "Freeze Frame" by J. Geils Band, "Everything I Wanted" by The Bangles and "Go!" by Tones on Tail. They are open to hearing other songs but really want to hear these ones as well. Please don't send in covers of anything too obscure, it should definitely be a "popular" song that was on the charts. Vocal and instrumental presentation must be top-notch! Broadcast quality needed (excellent sounding home demos are okay). Please submit one to three songs and/or instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, July 6, 2009.

NEW LISTING -- SERIOUS INSTRUMENTAL COMPOSERS are needed by a Music Producer who is creating a new independent music library and already has several TAXI composers under his roof. He is looking for composers IN ALL GENRES and said no stone will be left unturned in that respect. Although he is the provider of music for a huge daytime television talk show, he wants to make it clear that the composers he is looking to sign to the library will focus on other projects he is working on and will not compete with the composers working on the talk show. You must be able to work as a team player, take direction and deliver on time. He needs someone who uses high quality samples and has state-of-the-art equipment. He's definitely looking for a "pro" and not someone who works during the day, as he'll need you to be available for quick turnaround assignments and same day edits when necessary. He'd like someone with experience with syncing to tape. His deal offer is non-exclusive (except with other libraries) and you keep 100% of the writer's share. All submissions need to be Broadcast Quality. Please submit two to three instrumentals online or per CD, include Bio. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, August 17, 2009.

NEW LISTING -- EASY LISTENING POP COVER SONGS AND INSTRUMENTAL TRACKS of HITS from the 70's and 80's, a la Rick Astley, The Carpenters, Helen Reddy, etc., are needed by the President and CEO of a new publishing company to supply music for Film and TV placements, Video Games, Toy products, Hallmark music cards and more! This gentleman was the head of the library division of a Major music publisher and is now branching out on his own, so you are definitely in good hands. Some suggested songs to cover are "Together Forever" by Rick Astley to "Top of the World" by The Carpenters and "I Am Woman" by Helen Reddy. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Wednesday, August 5, 2009.

NEW LISTING -- WORLD MUSIC ARTISTS - OF ALL STYLES - are wanted by the VP of A&R at an International Independent Record Label with worldwide distribution. This label specializes in New Age and World Music and is extremely high-profile in those circles. They would love to find artists who are relevant to a mass audience and not just confined to a niche base of appreciators. This label has supported many successful Japanese artists, but they are looking to expand into all areas of World Music. They are open to traditional/authentic tones as well as current/contemporary approaches. They're very interested in artists who have established themselves online, with some sales and a bit of touring experience. These things aren't necessary to submit, but please don't forget to submit a photo/bio regardless of your experience/history. Instrumentation and vocals need to be top-notch! Please submit two to three songs online or per CD, include photo/bio. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Wednesday, July 29, 2009.

Dear Passengers,
More deals than ever are flying through the doors of our members, so it's kind of amazing to me when we see certain listings — that we know are "gold" — yet they don't get many submissions for them.
Now before you go thinking, "Oh that Laskow dude… he's just trying to get rich off those $5 submission fees," please remember this. We have screeners to pay… lots of screeners!
Yep, we barely make any profit on those sub fees. Last year we paid the screeners nearly 1.2 MILLION DOLLARS to listen to your music. So… now that you know that this isn't some sleazy attempt to generate more submission fees, I want to let you know about a change we're making to make sure you see ALL the listings you SHOULD see.
This set of listings will have them broken out by Record Labels and Film/TV. Each of those categories will be broken out by genre, just as they always were. We're currently building TAXI 2.0, which will include some really great listing/submission management features for you. But until then, we want to make sure you see all the listings in your genres.
We did a little test, and the people who saw this new layout gave us positive feedback. We hope you enjoy the new layout.
Item 2: The Road Rally will be here before you know it. It's going to be held in Los Angeles on November 5th-8th, 2009. Each and every year, attendees tell us that we have in fact, beat the previous year for overall quality. Because I know it's going to be harder financially this year for some of you, I'm making it my personal business to exceed your expectations so you feel well rewarded for coming.
We will have more specifics for you than ever before. By "specifics" I mean, panels that will show you exactly how to write film and TV ready music and interviews with top publishers who will tell you exactly what they look for in film/TV tracks. I really don't think any other convention or seminar has ever drilled down as deeply as I plan to this year.
Of course, we'll have all the usual opportunities to get your music heard and meet industry people face to face. But even those of you who have delighted in several of our confabs before will think this year is substantially better. I promise not to let you down!
Mark your calendar and start squirreling some money away. This will be the best Rally EVER!!
Let us know what you think of the new Industry Listings format.
Talk to you soon,
Michael

PLEASE NOTE!
If you are submitting by mail (ground submissions) and sending in a CD or tape, please enclose a S.A.S.E. (self-addressed stamped envelope) if you would like a response. Thank you!

Submission Policies
- You must be a current member of TAXI to submit your material. If you're not already a member, click here to find out how to join.
- The Submission Fee is $5.00 per song for every listing (unless otherwise noted). Listings that ask for up to three songs per listing would be $5, $10, or $15 based on whether you are submitting 1, 2, or 3 songs to that listing.
- You must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the proper amount of postage with each submission if you would like to receive a critique and/or have your tape/CD returned. Enclosing one SASE with a several submissions doesn't work. Multiple submissions go into a different bins or to different screeners as soon as we receive them, and are returned to you at different times.
- We notify you by postcard if forwarded for any listing--No SASE needed for forward notification.
- Late submissions slow everything down. We are very pleased to have significantly improved our listing turnaround time. We can't accept late submissions and stay efficient.
- You must use your official TAXI Music Submission Form with the BarCode information at the top. Roll up your burritos so that Bar Code is exposed and readable without having to unwrap or re-wrap your burrito. It's OK if your check covers the bar code, because we take it out before scanning the bar code anyway.
- Those of you who have seen the music room know what kind of volume we handle. All of these little rules help us to serve you better.
- Miguel's Tape Burrito
(Always filling, Low Cal, Non-fat, Never delicious)
Place the submission form face-down with the top pointing away from you. Place the lyric sheets, envelopes, etc. on top of it in the same fashion. Place the cassette near the bottom of the sheets, and roll it all up from bottom to top. The end result will give you a tape burrito that will be 8 1/2 inches wide, and have the girth of a cassette. The submission form will end up on the outside, and your name and the listing number will be readily visible for our data entry people. No folding of anything! Please tuck your checks in the rubber bands so they are easily found without unraveling the whole enchilada.

REMINDER!!
REMEMBER TO PLEASE INCLUDE A SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE WITH YOUR SUBMISSION IF YOU WANT A CRITIQUE BACK.

CUSTOM CRITIQUES
If you have material you would like critiqued without responding to a specific listing, you've come to the right place. Fill out the submission form with the song title(s) and author(s) as usual, but in place of the listing number write "CUSTOM" in capital letters.
Please include a note specifying the aspects you would like the listener to address.
For example, some members like to have their craft (lyrics, rhyme, structure, etc.) closely critiqued. Others want to know for which genre their writing is best suited (sorry, but we can't recommend specific listings for you to pitch to). Still others want a review of their photos, bios, package, etc.
The submission fee is $20 per song. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and make sure to specify if you want the tape (or CD) back, or just a critique. Remember, these critiques are for your own edification and development and NOT targeted for a label or publisher, and therefore will not be forwarded.
