Dear Passengers,
With the ever-increasing number of TAXI members who are figuring out that Broadcast Quality typically means a good, clean recording and a well-balanced mix, more of our members are getting forwards. Another part of the success formula is that more members are upgrading their virtual instruments and sample libraries and getting better sounds to use in their productions.
We WANT to forward as much material as we can, and it kills us when we have to hold an otherwise great track back because a horn sample sounds out of date and not very real. But the Film and TV publishers have become more sophisticated in their expectations, and we have to meet or exceed them or they won't continue to request music from you.
It's unlikely that they would hear something from one of our members and say, "I like it, but can you ask the member to re-record using better sounding samples?" They don't need to. They'll just take the next well-written piece that DOES have better sounding sample.
Broadcast Quality does NOT mean something has to be recorded in a big, pro studio and then mastered. Most of the pieces that get signed have been recorded at home and have not been mastered.
You'd be shocked by how many tracks get signed, get placements and generate income that only have one or two instruments on them. Do yourself a favor and read these two posts from our Forum to help yourself get more deals.

A while back you guys [TAXI] forwarded a couple tracks to ******* Music. Ben and I really hit it off and have had a great track record with placements on television. He received an opportunity to write a song for a Mattel Hot Wheels commercial. He let me have a crack at it and after a few crazy months, the marketing test went well, and I was notified that it is a go.
I was told these things could air in a week or a couple of months(!) So I continue to keep my head down and record...rinse....lather...repeat.. record...rinse....lather...repeat.
If there is any possible way, please let Michael Laskow know how much I appreciate what he has done and that he should feel pretty proud about what the company has been able to accomplish.
I honestly thought TAXI was a scam...
You know that I was a skeptic when I first joined...I honestly thought TAXI was a scam and figured I'd get my money back once I saw proof. But, I have been pretty successful since I joined and have been happily proven wrong!
I have seen/heard that people think TAXI stinks because their songs never get a forward/deal. But that should be a red flag and make us all look AT our music, with an open mind and ask why?
It could just be a genre that is not popular for tv/film...or it could be the song itself...or the recording… none of us musicians want to hear that our music is sub-par, but that is where TAXI shines. They WILL tell you...and that is more important than 42 friends saying that "your song rocks."
Once you get that forward, your job is not done. I know with me, it's all about presentation. If a company contacts me to sign a song, I return what they ask for right away. If I am writing songs /cues for television request by a company I am signed with, I turn it around in 24 hours. How we present ourselves goes a long way. I think that is an important lesson, also.
It's the little things!
Even a little thing like a contact email...would you rather have a licensing company contact you at @#$%&@aol.com or contact@keithlubrant.com? Web sites are pretty cheap and the URL itself is only about $9 a year!
I know I am babbling, but I just wanted to thank him and TAXI that they are able to open doors that normally are shut (and probably padlocked!) for us musicians and once we have those doors open up, we should put our best foot forward and shine!

Keith understands what nearly all of our most successful members seem to agree upon — humility and pragmatism can make you successful. His reference to record, rinse, lather, repeat means that he knows he needs to keep cranking out the music, submitting it and moving onto the next track without sitting by the phone waiting for the call.
Keith's email really says it all better than I ever could. Read it again, listen to the tracks on the Forum from members who got deals and make a plan. If you thought you could join TAXI, send in a few pieces, instantly sign some deals and make a bunch of money, you might need to make a new plan.
Follow the examples that your fellow members generously share on the Forum, hang in there for a while and experience what they have. You can do it, and there is no time better than right now to get started.

Submission Policies
- You must be a current member of TAXI to submit your material. If you're not already a member, click here to find out how to join.
- The Submission Fee is $5.00 per song for every listing (unless otherwise noted). Listings that ask for up to three songs per listing would be $5, $10, or $15 based on whether you are submitting 1, 2, or 3 songs to that listing.
- You must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the proper amount of postage with each submission if you would like to receive a critique and/or have your tape/CD returned. Enclosing one SASE with a several submissions doesn't work. Multiple submissions go into a different bins or to different screeners as soon as we receive them, and are returned to you at different times.
- We notify you by postcard if forwarded for any listing--No SASE needed for forward notification.
- Late submissions slow everything down. We are very pleased to have significantly improved our listing turnaround time. We can't accept late submissions and stay efficient.
- You must use your official TAXI Music Submission Form with the BarCode information at the top. Roll up your burritos so that Bar Code is exposed and readable without having to unwrap or re-wrap your burrito. It's OK if your check covers the bar code, because we take it out before scanning the bar code anyway.
- Those of you who have seen the music room know what kind of volume we handle. All of these little rules help us to serve you better.

Place the submission form face-down with the top pointing away from you. Place the lyric sheets, envelopes, etc. on top of it in the same fashion. Place the cassette near the bottom of the sheets, and roll it all up from bottom to top. The end result will give you a tape burrito that will be 8 1/2 inches wide, and have the girth of a cassette. The submission form will end up on the outside, and your name and the listing number will be readily visible for our data entry people. No folding of anything! Please tuck your checks in the rubber bands so they are easily found without unraveling the whole enchilada.

CUSTOM CRITIQUES
If you have material you would like critiqued without responding to a specific listing, you've come to the right place. Fill out the submission form with the song title(s) and author(s) as usual, but in place of the listing number write "CUSTOM" in capital letters.
Please include a note specifying the aspects you would like the listener to address.
For example, some members like to have their craft (lyrics, rhyme, structure, etc.) closely critiqued. Others want to know for which genre their writing is best suited (sorry, but we can't recommend specific listings for you to pitch to). Still others want a review of their photos, bios, package, etc.
The submission fee is $20 per song. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and make sure to specify if you want the tape (or CD) back, or just a critique. Remember, these critiques are for your own edification and development and NOT targeted for a label or publisher, and therefore will not be forwarded.
