NEW LISTING -- ELECTRONIC DANCE INSTRUMENTALS are needed for NON-Exclusive Placements by the Music Supervisor of a Big Budget Feature Film with a killer, A-List Cast. She’s eagerly hunting for original, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of acts like Daft Punk, Justice, Kavinsky, etc., etc., etc. Take a listen to the following references to hear the type of music they’re looking for…

“Derezzed” by Daft Punk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhFCOS5f2l8

“Let There Be Light” by Justice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0-tWLi0Kp4

“Wayfarer” by Kavinsky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArtophI2ORg

Quoting the source: “You didn’t think we were done yet, did you? Once again, we need more tunes with the similar vibe as ‘Derezzed’ by Daft Punk. This will be for background source music, so it should really help set the tone of the scene and propel the scene forward.”

Please submit tight, rhythmically engaging tracks, with razor sharp synths, and a hip four-on-the-floor feel. Arpeggiated synth lines could work really well for this pitch, but they’re not absolutely necessary if the feel of your submission can generally match the vibe they need. Your submissions can have a linear quality in terms of the overall arrangement, but should still add and subtract various instruments as it progresses to keep your track interesting from beginning to end.

Your submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists or music in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for feel, texture, tone, and vibe. Broadcast quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

The estimated license fee for this is $1000, depending on the ultimate placement. This is a Direct-to-Music Supervisor pitch, so you’ll keep 100% ownership of your Master and Publishing rights, plus you’ll also get 100% of the sync fee and any applicable performance royalties. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. All songs will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques. Please submit 1-3 Instrumentals online or per CD, no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Monday, August 3rd, 2015. TAXI #U150803ED

NEW LISTING -- EPIC, CONTEMPORARY HYBRID TRAILER-style INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a Top-Tier Music Licensing Company with a super long list of great placements in Film, TV, Commercials, and Trailers. Give them hybridized Instrumentals that could be found on the same playlist as acts specializing in Trailer music like Two Steps From Hell, Audiomachine, Immediate music, etc., etc., etc. Give them fresh Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that are structured like a typical Film Trailer, with 3 "acts" that build as the piece progresses. The hybrid elements you choose to add to your composition can vary from elements of Electro, Dubstep, Alt Rock, etc., etc., etc. Your submissions should have great dynamics, with plenty of texture and layers to deliver an emotionally stirring performance. Easy edit points and crescendos that lead to buttoned endings are strongly encouraged. Please DO NOT copy or rip off the referenced Trailer acts in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. All submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length, a little longer might even be better. Broadcast Quality is needed (Great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so please be sure the pieces you pitch for this are NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. Any sync fees will be split 50/50 with the Company. NEW LISTING -- ETHEREAL, CINEMATIC INSTRUMENTALS are needed for a NON-Exclusive, Direct-to-Music Supervisor Placement in a Big Budget, Hollywood Feature Film. The Supervisor needs simple, warm, and gradually building Down-Tempo Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of acts like M83, Moby, BT, etc., etc., etc. Please take a listen to the references below to get yourself in the ballpark:

“Highest Journey” by M83: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKWtnut_E50

“God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters” by Moby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTunCVWzkFA

“All That Makes Us Human Continues” by BT (0:00-4:30): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrTSICM54cw

Please submit lush Instrumentals with a simple, repetitive, and singular melodic motif, and a structure/arrangement that gradually builds throughout to help move the scene forward. Adding layers of instrumentation to build an ever growing, emotional soundscape is a good idea. Instrumentation like synth pads, strings, piano, and various electronic elements should work well for this pitch. Non-lyrical vocal/choral sounds like “Oohs” and “Ahhs” could work well for this pitch, but they’re not absolutely necessary. If you use non-lyrical voices, you’d be smart to make sure they’re treated as an “instrument” blended into the mix, rather than being too out front. Submissions should be at least 3 minutes long. Non-faded endings might have an edge. We’ve also heard pieces like this that build to a climax, then go into sort of a repose, dropping back to just a solo instrument that plays the motif a few times, then ends on the root note, and decays naturally.

Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced acts or their music in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

The estimated license fee for this is $2,000, depending on the ultimate placement. This is a Non-Exclusive, Direct-to-Music Supervisor pitch, so you’ll keep 100% ownership of your Master and Publishing rights, plus you’ll also get 100% of the sync fee and any applicable performance royalties! No Publisher Splits. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. All songs will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques. NEW LISTING -- TENSION-BUILDING INSTRUMENTAL UNDERSCORE CUES are needed by a NON-Exclusive Music Library that’s directly feeding music for 2 HBO TV Shows that need similar music. They’re on the hunt for great Instrumental Cues that can generally match the subtle, yet serious intensity of these references:

“Area 51” by Alexandre Desplat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFTDNRdjTyE

“Hanging” by Carter Burwell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kuvp5pB0kuY

“Set Them Free” by Steve Jablonski: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxN-vUKjCXI

Quoting the source: “We need tension cues that have some drive to them. They need to help push a scene forward with a dark and ominous feeling.”

Please submit relatively simple Instrumental cues that have a serious tone/mood, yet are somewhat subtle, and can still propel a scene forward. If your Cue can add some tension to a scene without being too busy or frenetic, you’ll be in the ballpark! No need to break out the bombastic Taiko drums or huge brass swells for this pitch. They’re NOT looking for heart-racing, chase scene-style tension Cues for these shows. The examples above are really your best guide for this pitch!

Submissions should be approximately 90 seconds in length. Non-faded endings with a natural decay/ring out are recommended. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

This Library offers a NON-Exclusive 50/50 deal. You’ll get 50% of any applicable sync fees and 100% of the Writer’s share. The Publisher will get 50% of any sync fees and 100% of the Publisher’s share. You must own or control your Master and Composition to submit to this pitch. NEW LISTING -- DREAMY, REFLECTIVE, and THOUGHTFUL INSTRUMENTAL UNDERSCORE CUES are needed by a NON-Exclusive Music Library that’s supplying music directly to 2 HBO TV shows. They’re eager to find Instrumental Cues that generally match the mood of the references below:

“The Light” by The Album Leaf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dM6lFQysxtg

“He Had A Good Time” by Cliff Martinez: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp4Kr6bpz-c

“Anything You Synthesize” by The American Dollar (0:00-2:30): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSU49AFzgtw

Please submit ambient Instrumental Cues with warm pads, strings, and other dreamy, float-y, reflective elements that stick with a simple melodic motif throughout, while adding and subtracting instrumental layers as it progresses to keep it interesting. Submissions should be approximately 90 seconds in length. Non-faded endings with a natural decay/ring out are recommended. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

NEW LISTING -- ELECTRONIC DANCE INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a Hollywood Music Supervisor for a Non-Exclusive Placement in a Big Budget Feature Film. She needs High-Energy, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that could be found on the same playlist as acts like Sick Individuals, Martin Garrix, Firebeatz, Calvin Harris, R3hab, etc., etc., etc. Please review the following references to get in the general ballpark of what they need:

“Prime” by Sick Individuals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHXlAIztyNI

“Helicopter” by Martin Garrix & Firebeatz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovDcLHa2L1o

“Burnin” by Calvin Harris & R3hab: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLRtClGyGgo

Quoting the source: “We really like the energy of ‘Prime’ by Sick Individuals, which works pretty well for the scene. Some phrases with Male or Female Vocals like ‘Let’s Go’ ‘Drop It’ ‘Come On’ etc., could work, or your members can submit pieces that are solely instrumental.”

Please submit heart-pounding, rhythmically intense Instrumentals that sound like a true EDM cut, with heavy Euro synths, great breakdowns, awesome builds, and a killer, pulsing beat. A repetitive melodic hook that’s immediately engaging will work really well for this pitch. As mentioned in the Music supervisor’s quote, your submissions can have well-placed vocal phrases to help add some additional intensity, but it’s not absolutely necessary!

Your submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists or tracks in any way shape or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

The estimated license fee for this opportunity is $1,000. NEW LISTING -- SIMPLE, UPLIFTING, TV COMMERCIAL-FRIENDLY INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a Production Music Library based outside of the U.S. and distributed Internationally, for Film, TV, and Commercials. Give them emotionally uplifting, fun Mid-to-Up Tempo Instrumentals that could be found in the background of commercials. Please listen to the following references as a general guide for the type of sound they need:

Match.com Commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYWgA2FYg3Q

Wix.com Commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RintSKngKL4

Swiffer WetJet Commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewE_CIqBeX0

We’re not suggesting that you have to mimic those references! Those aren’t exact targets, so much as examples of just some of the types of uplifting commercials for which your music could work. Please do not copy or rip off the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and vibe.

Quoting the Library: “We have a ‘Happiness’ project we are working on, looking for lots of fun and uplifting instrumentals for TV Commercials; some simple Ukulele, Xylophone, Piano, & Acoustic Guitar material with accompanying elements like Handclaps, Whistling, and simple Percussion. We are really looking for fun tracks that inspire and generally have a ‘feel good’ vibe.”

Please submit emotionally positive, inviting Instrumentals with authentic sounding acoustic instrumentation (see quote above), catchy melodies, and simple, yet memorable melodic hooks. We recommend submitting pieces that are 29.5 seconds long or 59.5 seconds long (including ring outs!) with with easy edit points, and a buttoned ending. If you want to submit longer pieces, you can, but you’d be smart to make them easily editable into 29.5 second versions and 59.5 second versions, which make them easier to use and more desirable to the editors and/or mixers who would eventually be laying the music into the commercials. Broadcast quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

TAXI Tip: This opportunity isn’t about showing off what a great composer you are, so much as nailing the happy-go-lucky, positive vibe. Creating a melody that’s better than the plethora of material already out there in this genre could be the thing that gets your piece to the top of the pile!

This Library offers an EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 split. You’ll get 50% of any applicable sync fees and 100% of the Writer’s share. The Publisher get 50% of any sync fees and 100% of the Publisher’s share. You must own or control the Master and Composition to submit to this pitch. Do NOT submit any pieces for this pitch that are already signed to any other libraries or publishers. Please submit one to three Instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Pop
Return to List of Categories

NEW LISTING -- SOULFUL, CONTEMPORARY POP SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by the VP of A&R at a Major Record Label for a Big International Pop Star working on her long awaited new album. They’re really eager to find her well-crafted, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Songs in the stylistic ballpark of artists like Ella Henderson, Beyonce, Sam Smith, etc., etc., etc. Please listen to the following songs to get yourself in the general ballpark of what this chart-topping artist needs:

“Ghost” by Ella Henderson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA8AfQaUnXM

“Halo” by Beyonce: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnVUHWCynig

“Stay With Me” by Sam Smith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB-5XG-DbAA

Quoting the source: “She’s making a Pop/Soul record with some really big vocal moments, so songs should cater to her range and control. The songs can have Male or Female vocals, but must work from a female perspective. Lyric themes are fairly open, but should be heartfelt and contemporary. Love related themes often work well for artists like this!”

Please submit passionate, soulfully expressive songs with an immediately contagious chorus/hook that’s memorable long after the song is over. A simple, yet unforgettable melody will also work wonders for this pitch! Classic Pop song structure with a fresh twist on a familiar lyric idea could be a great idea. Toni Braxton’s, “Unbreak My Heart” is a great example of that! Remember, this artist has an exceptional voice, so give her something that makes it easy for her to imagine her voice on your song. Give her something so good that she’ll practically beg you to include it on her record!

Your production needs to be competitive for this pitch! Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques. Please submit 1-3 Songs no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Thursday, July 30th, 2015. TAXI #U150730SP

NEW LISTING -- MELANCHOLY DREAM POP SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed a NON-Exclusive, Direct-to-Music-Supervisor Placement in a Big Budget, Hollywood Feature Film. The Supervisor needs hypnotic, minimalist, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Songs in the general stylistic ballpark of acts like Beach House, Warpaint, Low, etc., etc., etc. Please listen to the references below to get an idea of overall vibe this Supervisor needs:

“Lovelier Girl” by Beach House: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1VS3wm_YEY

“Billie Holiday” by Warpaint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hZ4qiDEK8k

“2-Step” by Low: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYhIcT1nFsw

Quoting the source: “We really think something like ‘Lovelier Girl’ by Beach House will work perfectly, as long as the vibe can generally match the feel of the song. This is for background use, so lyrics are not as important.”

Please submit simple, lush, “Indie” sounding Songs that have a “mood-setting” quality, both musically and vocally. Reverb could be your best friend for this pitch, just don’t go too overboard. Lyric themes can be about anything you’d expect to hear in the genre, and due to the music being used as background source music, universal lyrics are NOT all that important for this pitch. But, you’d still be wise to avoid references to specific names, places, times, dates, brands, and profanity. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced acts or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

The estimated license fee for this is $2,000, depending on the ultimate placement. This is a Direct-to-Music Supervisor pitch, so you’ll keep 100% ownership of your Master and Publishing rights, plus you’ll also get 100% of the sync fee and any applicable performance royalties. No publisher splits. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. All songs will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques. The Supervisor needs original, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Songs in the stylistic wheelhouse of acts like The Black Keys, Hanni El Khatib, The Heavy, etc., etc., etc. Please listen to the following references to get in the ballpark of what they need:

“Too Afraid To Love You” by The Black Keys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laXVRmRAUjU

Lyric themes can be about anything you’d typically expect to hear in a Bluesy, Alt Rock Song. Who's "Screwing" Whom In The Music Biz?

Dear Passengers,

Yesterday, I had a phone conversation with a TAXI member who told me he didn't have time to read all of our Industry Listings, and he was frustrated that he hasn't had more forward movement since joining TAXI a few months ago. Ughhhh!

Isn't that like saying you want to be a NASCAR champ, but you're too busy to enter the most important races?

We hand you the best opportunities in the business, and all you have to do is invest 20 minutes every two weeks to see if you've got what these companies are asking for! These are REAL opportunities, not conjured up opportunities from people looking to make a fast buck on their portion of the submission fees that many other companies split with the people that run "listings" with them.

You simply can't win the music business race if you don't show up at the track, let alone find out which tracks the races are being run on! We're handing you the list of "races" on a silver platter and giving you directions to the "track!" All you need to do is take 20 minutes to look at this list of opportunities to see if you've got what they're asking for.

I know you've been "trained" to think everybody in the music business might be trying to screw you over and you've probably got no chance anyway, but that time-worn paradigm has been propagated by those who've done very little and expect a lot. Many of them are losers, so why would you take advice from them if you want to be a winner?

It can't be all that impossible if these people are doing it!

Talk to you soon,
Michael

P.S. TAXI's FREE convention for members is coming up in about 4 months. We're just about ready to put up the web page where you can reserve your rooms at the TAXI discounted rate and reserve your seats for this world-class event. Keep your eyes open for emails about the Road Rally to start coming your way soon! In the meantime, mark your calendar for the weekend of November 5th-8th, 2015. The Road Rally is held in Los Angeles, and it WILL be worth the trip!

CUSTOM CRITIQUES

If you have material you would like critiqued without responding to a specific listing, you've come to the right place. Fill out the submission form with the song title(s) and author(s) as usual, but in place of the listing number write "CUSTOM" in capital letters.
Please include a note specifying the aspects you would like the listener to address.
For example, some members like to have their craft (lyrics, rhyme, structure, etc.) closely critiqued. Others want to know for which genre their writing is best suited (sorry, but we can't recommend specific listings for you to pitch to). Still others want a review of their photos, bios, package, etc.
The submission fee is $20 per song. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and make sure to specify if you want the CD back, or just a critique. Remember, these critiques are for your own edification and development and NOT targeted for a label or publisher, and therefore will not be forwarded.
