NEW LISTING -- SONGS with Lyric Themes that have “Children of the Revolution” in them are needed by an A-List Music Licensing Company that pays up front Buy Out Fees up to $500. Male or Female Vocals are both welcome for his pitch. They are open to ANY contemporary genre, and we’re pretty sure they have a specific placement in mind for this. We don’t think the songs they choose will sit in a file waiting for the right request to come in. It’s pretty clear they have a target, and we’re guessing that it might be a TV series that can use songs wit this them more than once.

They’re open All Tempos, as well as a variety of current genres (Rock, Hip Hop, Singer/Songwriter, EDM, Chillwave, etc., etc. are ALL possibilities for this!) as long as the lyric theme of your song has “Children of the Revolution” in it. We think it might be best if that phrase is in the chorus. The screeners will be looking mostly for songs that strike them as cool and interesting, with the lyric phrase obviously included. Your production and arrangements can rage from stripped-down, Lo-Fi Guitar/Vocal to trippy Electro, to straight up Rock, and anything else you can think of. This is a case where something that’s on the edge might work, but don’t go overboard. Universal lyrics are probably still a good idea, so please avoid references to specific names, dates, times, brands, and places. “Appropriate” Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE Buy Out Deal. They buy the Copyright and Master recording rights for $300 to $500 per song. You keep 100% of the writer’s share, and make performance income on the back end from your PRO. The Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher’s Share, and will split any sync fees and mechanical royalties 50/50 with you. DARK, ORCHESTRAL UNDERSCORE INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a UK-based Music Licensing Company that's eager to their catalog in a big way. They're looking for fresh Orchestral Underscore Instrumental Cues that you'd typically hear in shows like Agent Carter, Gotham, Arrow, The Flash, etc., etc., etc. Quoting the source: "We are looking for music for our 'Dark Cinematic' library album. Instrumentals only, and at least 2 minutes long. We are looking for cinematic pieces with a strong, 'dark' sounding angle. These should not tip too far into an ambient horror genre though, and not get too big to be considered a trailer track. The tracks must be based mainly around an orchestral instrumentation." Your submissions should focus on a central melodic motif, while layering different instruments to keep your Cues forward moving and interesting. As mentioned in the quote, your submissions should be based in believable-sounding Orchestral instrumentation, but they're open to hybrid elements as well if they suit the Cue nicely. Your submissions should be at least 2 minutes long. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal, and an 80/20 split in the Writer's favor for any applicable download fees by clients from their Library! They're currently building several new catalogs for their library, and are scrambling to find a bunch of fresh, new music! Please submit well-crafted Instrumental Cues that either have a completely traditional Indian sound, or something that uses traditional Indian instruments coupled with some modern elements. We are looking for tracks that would sit well in documentaries about India, it's culture, food, etc. The music should either be 100% authentic Indian instruments, or could contain subtle, tasteful modern elements, but should not sound like it's a different genre with just a sprinkling of an Indian flavor!" NEW LISTING -- CONTEMPORARY ROCK INSTRUMENTSAL CUES with some “Cambodian flavor” are needed quickly by a large and very successful Music Licensing Company for a destination-based TV Series. They’re looking for emotionally upbeat, fun, Up-Tempo Rock Instrumental Cues with some Cambodian Instrumentation added to give it an indigenous feel and flavor. Here are some examples of Traditional Cambodian Instrumental Music to give you some ideas for instruments that might sound cool on top of your Rock tracks:

Pinpeat Khmer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEFyPN6ICFQ

Tep Monorom Dance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKwAl_OzWGQ

Here’s a link to the various Traditional Cambodian Instruments to help: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_Cambodian_musical_instruments

NOTE: They are NOT looking for traditional music! We just gave you those examples so you could get familiar with what Cambodian instruments sound like.

Quoting the source: “We’re looking for music for an episode of a show set in Cambodia. We need current Rock music with Cambodian sprinkles on top. The mood should be upbeat and fun, with some attitude.”

Build your cues around a simple, yet engaging melodic motif, while layering various instruments in and out as the Cue progresses to add dynamics and keep your piece moving forward. Overdub a Tro Khmer or a Roneat Dek on top (just tossing those out as ideas), and you could be good to go! You’d be wise to avoid any material that’s overly busy or frenetic so your music doesn’t step on the toes of any of the show’s dialog or a voiceover. Imagine your submissions sitting nicely behind scenes as the host of the show visits iconic markets, rivers, and beaches in the culturally rich country. That’s what they need!

Submissions should be at least two-minutes long. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings are recommended. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

They're looking for timeless-sounding, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Classic Rock Instrumental Cues in the general stylistic wheelhouse of legendary bands like: Led Zepplin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9TGj2jrJk8&list=PLWRhxvQASiJ4tX7B3fK2cDU9FnHjWp1IhThe Rolling Stones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4irXQhgMqg&list=PL7sBCGkQNm0AnGpgm3kxVFTq5M-V24LcZDeep Purple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae_j-OE2ubMAlthough the references have vocals, please submit Instrumental Cues only for this pitch. Please avoid anything that sounds too busy, frenetic, or could become a distraction from a show's dialog or voiceover. Easy edit points and Non-Faded/Buttoned/Stinger endings will work best for this pitch. Your submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced bands in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This Library offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 Deal. You'll get 50% of any applicable sync fees and 100% of the Writer's share. The Publisher will get 50% of applicable sync fees and 100% of the Publisher's Share on the version they pitch. You'll keep 100% of the original copyright. NEW LISTING -- JAZZ-based DRAMEDY INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed for a $2,000, Non-Exclusive, Direct-to-Supervisor placement in an Online Commercial. They’re looking for playful, lounge-y, Jazzy, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Cues in the general stylistic ballpark of these references:

Sex and the City Opening Theme Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaEffhhLQ9Q

“Charlie’s Theme” by Christophe Beck: https://soundcloud.com/scorerevolution/charlie-bartlett-charlies

Quoting the source: “The tone should be a bit light and tongue-in-cheek, but not over the top, serious, or moody. Also, it shouldn’t be so light that it sounds whimsical. There’s a lot of voice over to contend with in this spot, so nothing too busy or layered, please.”

Give this Supervisor Cues that have a fun, lighthearted, and bouncy vibe, with instrumentation that sounds authentic. Anything that sounds stiff, synthetic, or obviously MIDI driven won’t work well for this pitch. Instrumentation like Jazz Guitar, stand-up bass, brushed Jazz drums, piano, vibraphone, flutes, percussion, and hand-claps will all work nicely to help convey the mood they need. But again, please avoid anything that’s too busy or layered, as specified by the Supervisor.

All submissions should be at about 2 to 3 minutes long. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings are recommended. Please do NOT copy or rip off the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for the tone, texture, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

The estimated sync fee is $2,000, depending on the ultimate placement. You will keep 100% ownership of your Master, Publishing, and Writer's Share! This license will be for worldwide use (because it will be on the Internet) for 2 years to “in perpetuity.” You will be able to pitch your track for other uses – this is Non-Exclusive. You must own or control your Master and Composition rights to submit for this listing. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques. Please submit 1-3 Instrumental Cues online or per CD no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Friday, February 12th, 2016. TAXI #U160212JC

This Publisher is the hot, go-to company for a long list of extremely popular TV shows and big Feature Films when they need music that sounds authentic to a particular time period. This company often averages several placements per week, and many of those are TAXI members who’ve been signed with this company because they submitted to a listing like this!

Dozens of TAXI members have signed buy out, cash-up-front deals with this company. Several have even received checks for $10,000 - $15,000 (or more!) while still keeping their writer’s share of the publishing and getting performance royalties from their PRO on the back end! Deal sizes and buyout amounts vary depending on the number and quality of the songs singed by the Publisher.

They DO NOT want material that was recently recorded and made to sound old. They can only use AUTHENTIC, ORIGINAL, VINTAGE Recordings of 1950s – 1960s Crooner-Style artists like those mentioned above.

This is a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY to make money with music you might have thought had no hope in today’s market. If you’ve got old Demos or Masters, then you could very well have what they need! This company knows that old recordings will typically sound less than hi-fidelity by today’s standards. Not a problem – they’re looking for authenticity! Even if your recordings were recorded live to mono or stereo tape, or done in an old 4-track, 8-track or 16-track studio, they could still be perfect for this company if they sound reasonably good. They DO NOT want slick, modern, ProTools generated recordings.

DO NOT SUBMIT FOR FRIENDS! Your name needs to be on the copyright. Your Songs need to be Original Compositions (no covers), and you need to own/control the copyright and master recordings to submit for this pitch.

Dozens of TAXI members have already made great deals and had some killer placements in big TV Shows and Feature Films through this company. If you’ve got some AUTHENTIC, VINTAGE oldies but goodies that have been collecting dust for decades, you really need to send them in for this opportunity! AUTHENTIC, ORIGINAL, 1960s ERA FEMALE SOUL RECORINDGS in the general stylistic ballpark of Nina Simone are needed by an extremely successful Publisher of Period Music for Film and TV Licensing. The Publisher tells us, "We get asked for stuff like her constantly." Check out these examples of some of the incomparable Miss Simone's work:I Put a Spell On You: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDprYZ-tgiAFeeling Good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5Y11hwjMNsMy Baby Just Cares for Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYSbUOoq4VgDon't Let Me Be Misunderstood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ckv6-yhnIYLove or Leave Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEQpipS_qfcThe Publisher thinks the reason Nina Simone's style has such great appeal for film and TV placements is that her music is "a little darker" than the other great Soul singers of that era. We think "I Put a Spell on You" is her signature song, so if you've got anything that sounds like that vibe, from that era, send it in!This Publisher is the hot, go-to company for a long list of extremely popular TV shows and big Feature Films when they need music that sounds authentic to a particular time period. This company often averages several placements per week, and many of those are TAXI members who've been signed with this company because they submitted to a listing like this! Dozens of TAXI members have signed buy out, cash-up-front deals with this company. Several have even received checks for $10,000 - $15,000 (or more!) while still keeping their writer's share of the publishing and getting performance royalties from their PRO on the back end! Deal sizes and buyout amounts vary depending on the number and quality of the songs picked up.They DO NOT want material that was recently recorded and made to sound old. They can only use AUTHENTIC, ORIGINAL, VINTAGE Recordings of 1960s Female Soul a la Nina Simone. This is a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY to make money with music you might have thought had no hope in today's market. If you've got Demos or Masters, then you could very well have what they need! This company knows that old recordings will typically sound less than hi-fidelity by today's standards. Not a problem Ð they're looking for authenticity! Even if your recordings were done in an old 4-track, 8-track or 16-track home studio, they could still be perfect for this company if they sound reasonably good. NEW LISTING -- LOVE-THEMED SINGER/SONGWRITER SONGS with Female Vocals are needed for a Non-Exclusive Placement by the Music Supervisor of an Indie Film. They’re looking for emotionally touching, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Songs in the general stylistic wheelhouse of artists like Amy Blaschke, Natalie Prass, Jenny Lewis, etc., etc., etc. Take a listen to the following references to get in the general ballpark of what they’re looking for:

“Come See About Loving Me” by Amy Blaschke: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StoUSlZYadw

Lyric themes should focus on the positive and/or longing aspects of love. The Supervisor is not looking for sad, depressing, or break-up related themes for this pitch. The more universal your lyrics are the better, so please avoid references to specific names, dates, times, brands, and profanity. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use the reference only as a general guide for the vibe they need. Broadcast quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you pitch for this opportunity is NOT already signed to any other Libraries or Catalogs. You must own or control the Master and Copyright to pitch for this. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. NEW LISTING -- ATMOSPHERIC SINGER/SONGWRITER SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a Major Record Label for a promising new artist that's working on his debut record. We recently ran this opportunity as TAXI Listing #Y160131SS, and they're eager to hear more material. If you made a submission to that Listing, please send different material this time around. Please submit well-crafted, commercially appealing Down-to-Mid-Tempo Songs in the general stylistic wheelhouse of artists like:James Blake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOT2-OTebx0X Ambassadors (not their Rockin' stuff): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0lw3qylVfYAdam French: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__EsJYEI6iAQuoting the source: "They're looking for the story telling aspect of the Singer/Songwriter genre combined with a haunting feel in the vocal, and a bit of edge (rather than vulnerability) in the lyric. They want current, smart, reflective narratives and contemporary, dynamic structures. Male or Female vocals are fine as long as it works from a Male perspective." You know the drill; give them a great melody, current production on your demo, a killer chorus, and a vocal that will get them excited about cutting your song. NOTE: Stripped-down demos are okay for this pitch if your song is really strong! Your recording quality (even for stripped-down demos) needs to be clean, clear, well balanced, and good enough to represent your song well. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis by a TAXI screener handpicked by the Label - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Tuesday, March 1st, 2016. TAXI #Y160301AS

Changes at TAXI in 2016...

Dear Passengers,

TAXI has come screaming out of the gate in 2016! Just in case you haven't noticed, we've upped our game when it comes to bringing in more opportunities, and more importantly, even better opportunities! We've been really humping it since the holidays, and the efforts have begun to pay off pretty quickly.

We've also started adding links to referenced artists and/or songs (whenever possible) in our "Regular" Industry Listings that we publish on the 1st and 15th of every month, not just in our daily "Special" Listings that go out nearly every day of the year! We've already seen an uptick in members hitting the sweet spot and getting more forwards now that most listings have links to the references in them.

We're glad you're listening before you submit. It's the smart thing to do!

Maybe You Didn't Know This...

By the way, I had a phone call from a member last week who was telling me how much she appreciated our Listings, but she wondered why so many of them have deadlines that are just 4 days away. Together, we figured out that she had not been paying attention to the emails we send out on the 1st and 15th of every month. She didn't realize that the 3 or 4 Listings that appear right under the daily "Special" Listings are reminders of upcoming deadlines for the "Regular" listings.

I would imagine that she's not the only person who might not realize that the FIRST Listing in the daily updates are hot off the press, and the Listings that follow the first one are reminders about the Listings published on the 1st and 15th!

There are generally about 35 brand new Listings published every two weeks. It's really important that you take five or ten minutes to look at those emails on the 1st and 15th so you can find the opportunities that work for you and have plenty of time to get your submissions in on time.

If you think those Listings you see in the daily emails all have short deadlines, you're probably overlooking the big batches sent out on the 1st and 15th and you could have had MUCH more time to get your music to us.

Thank You!

And finally, I'd like to thank each and every one of you who have sent condolence cards to my family and me since the passing of my mother in December. We are very touched by your thoughtfulness, kind words, and prayers. I don't know of too many other companies who are blessed to have customers who are more like family than "customers."

You are a very special and wonderful group of people, and you are deeply appreciated!

Thank you,
Michael

CUSTOM CRITIQUES

If you have material you would like critiqued without responding to a specific listing, you've come to the right place. Fill out the submission form with the song title(s) and author(s) as usual, but in place of the listing number write "CUSTOM" in capital letters.
Please include a note specifying the aspects you would like the listener to address.
For example, some members like to have their craft (lyrics, rhyme, structure, etc.) closely critiqued. Others want to know for which genre their writing is best suited (sorry, but we can't recommend specific listings for you to pitch to). Still others want a review of their photos, bios, package, etc.
The submission fee is $20 per song. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and make sure to specify if you want the CD back, or just a critique. Remember, these critiques are for your own edification and development and NOT targeted for a label or publisher, and therefore will not be forwarded.
