"hooked from the first song" - Mercury
If you like the music of SYML, Vance Joy und George Esra, you'll almost certainly appreciate Kiwi dream folk specialist Mathew James White. The New Zealand born, Berlin based Singer Songwriter, is often compared to all three artists with his repertoire of hook filled, chilled out & at times, rocky material.
He constantly tours Europe and has built up a strong and ever-growing fan base over the years, often playing to sold-out houses. Mathew played at the Blue Balls Festival 2017 in Lucerne alongside artists such as Davis Gray, Peter Doherty & Jose Gonzalez.
His most recent releases have been singles - "What We’re Made Of” (2021) a song all about being courageous, "Only The Light” (2020) a piece of Portugal. The Man inspired alt-pop and “Up High” (2019) all about being there for someone.
His 2019 release Old and New went against the grain of release trends, making it only available directly from him and was never released on the internet.
His fourth studio album "I'm Thinking of You", released in September 2017 is his most personal work to date, partially influenced by the loss of a child. The albums creation was very central in dealing with his grieving process. "I’m Thinking of You" also taps into subjects such as recognising our own power, longing for those we love & the anticipation of new life.
In addition to "I'm Thinking of You", White has released three other studio albums: "That's Just Me" in 2004, Acoustic Guitars and Ooh La La's in 2007 & 528Hz in 2011, as well as a live album "Songs From My Living Room" in 2014.
His side project "Mpath" is a three-piece band founded with German drummer Phillip Renz and the English hit producer Martyn Phillips. The band has released three studio albums to date.
