In the Fall of 1992, I and a former Navy colleague Nathan Martz and friend Glenn Meizlesh started a band called Pope Willi. Fronting the group as its lead singer-songwriter, we would play open mics at various venues within the DC Metro Area. We soon added a drummer, and the band Eighteen Rabbit (18Rabbit) was officially established in 1993. After playing regionally for 2-years, the band released our first full-length album, "New Breed of Other" in 1995. I, along with all the members had full-time day jobs and there would be many member lineup changes over the years. Our follow up album, "Ghost of Envy" was recorded and released in 2003. Ultimately some of the original members departed and new members were added as needed, a new band called "The Shallowz" was established in 2011. The Shallowz produced two releases "Barn Sessions EP Vol. 1" in 2020 and "More Songs, Same Barn" in June 2022. The band continued to play locally in the DC Metro Area and practice on the weekends until finally ended in Spring 2023.
In 1996, while also fronting his rock band Eighteen Rabbit, I answered an ad in the DC City Paper for a singer to start an acoustic project. I met with Patrick Hughes at a local diner, and the group, Hughes & Dixon was officially created. The collaboration of Hughes' original guitar progressions combined with Dixon's lyrics and vocals generated over 80 original songs that were played live at various open mics and venues throughout the DC Metro Area. we published two side projects releases, Opus Jones' Three's a Crowd in 1998, and Envy Waits' Jen's Cobbler in 2000, with the only release as Hughes & Dixon in 2002's "Songs from a DuPont Cafe." The side projects comprised external collaborations with other local musicians. Patrick and I ended our collaboration in 2002 but would digitally release music to all major platforms in 2020.
