I had a country-western band called "Johnny Nix and The Loners" back in the early to mid 1970s. We played mostly in Oklahoma and bordering states. We opened for Merle Haggard in Muskogee in 1970 when he returned after winning everything at the CMA for his live album "Okie from Muskogee" the previous year. In 1971, we opened for Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton at the Tulsa Convention Center, and later that year I appeared at Vegas World on a show that featured Marty Robbins and Dotty West. Merle Haggard offered me a songwriting contract through his publishing company, Shade Tree Music, in 1970 but it was a five-year exclusive contract with a five-year option and, ultimately, we decided not to sign.
I have been writing country and gospel songs off-and-on for 50 years but just started recording them again in 2011. I record at Cabin 6 Studio in Whitefish, MT and Toby Scott is my Engineer & Producer. Toby was the E&P for Bruce Springsteen and was involved in every album Bruce put out until 2017. He produced 18 albums for Bruce before retiring and moving to Whitefish. My songs are mostly traditional in style but Toby and Marc Muller, who has toured with Bruce Springsteen as well as Shania Twain and others, plays multiple instruments and assists in some of the most recent arrangements.
