Jeff Burger was born into a musical family, started playing piano at an early age and soon became inseparable from his radio. His relationship to music turned professional after experiencing a live rock band for the first time, and he never looked back.
After honing his chops as a pop-rock keyboardist, Jeff’s musical tastes diversified at the same time he began songwriting, playing guitar, and producing—often as a one-man band. He embraced his natural baritone vocals, bringing added warmth, depth and character to his songs.
While his pop-rock roots are still on display, Jeff’s writing and production styles are more that of a musical chamelon, following the muse wherever it leads him or opportunities demand. Many of his songs are purpose-built with a message, such as “Lean on Me” for the Women Emerging summit supporting women healing from sexual abuse. “In the Streets of Charlottesville”, for which he also produced the music video, was inspired by living in Charlottesville, VA at the time of the 2017 violent Alt Right Rally there.
Jeff’s entry into the eternal holiday soundscape, “I Want to Spend Christmas with You”, honors his loving parents—envisioned as something his father might have sung to his mother as newlyweds back in the day. After scouring the web for just the right vocalist, he found crooner Michael Civisca, an alumni of Michael Jackson’s MJJ label. Wasting no time, Jeff cut the track the same day they met in person for the first time.
As a lifetime music industry pro, Jeff has penned 500+ articles on technology in the arts, and been an editor at four leading industry mags including Electronic Musician, EQ and Recording Engineer/Producer. He is also the author of the seminal book, “The Desktop Multimedia Bible” and five other related books on media production.
Jeff feels privileged to have worked with A-list artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock, Frank Zappa, Dave Brubeck, Thomas Dolby, Devo, Yes and The Who. As a multimedia producer/consultant, his clients have included Apple, Disney, Pepsi, Marvel and Hyundai. He’s also helped bring cutting-edge music production gear to market for brands including Avid, Moog, Roland, Avid, Line 6, Blue, and M-Audio.
In life, as in music, Jeff strives every day to “remember the space between the beats”.
