Early in 2025, I returned to music with the release of “Bongo Herbert Rides Again” as a CD and on the streaming platforms. This release echoes where I began. In the late 1970s I wrote, recorded and released a 4-song EP called “Bongo Herbert.” It was favourably reviewed by Trouser Press. in my musical and songwriting career, I founded a rock band called The Defayds with poet Robert Priest that performed all original material in the art rock scene of early ‘80s Toronto, and another band called The Boinks that created original material for children. The Boinks had a regular Saturday afternoon gig at the legendary Bamboo Club in Toronto and wrote topical songs weekly for a CBC kids show called “Is Anybody Home.” The Boinks also recorded and released “Summerlong,” a concept album that was broadcast in a 3-part adaptation on CBC’s “Morningside.” I also wrote songs for a Tim Wynne-Jones radio play commissioned by the CBC and received an Ontario Arts Council grant to write and record another solo project. Though I put out a 7-song CD called “Waiting for Rain” in 2000, most of my energies in the past two decades have been directed to visual art (see Eric Rosser.com), but it feels great to be making music again.
