Afton Wolfe was raised by the Ghosts of American Music, all over the State of Mississippi. Spending the last twenty years in Nashville, as a student, artist, philosopher, bartender and attorney, he's garnered a perspective as diverse as his catalogue of recordings. Truly genre-defying, his discography spans moods, genres and musical styles like no other Artist, but his distinct, gruff baritone and pointed, cerebral lyrics permeate through, providing a unique continuity.
His first solo release, the critically-lauded "Petronius' Last Meal" of 2020 was followed up by his first full length solo album "Kings For Sale" in 2021, produced by Oz Fritz, whose credits include Bill Laswell, Tom Waits, Ginger Baker, and the Ramones.
Since then, Afton has released the breakthrough EP "Twenty-Three" that included "So Purple," "Cry," and "Late Nite Radio." He's put out two separate singles - collaborating on the classic "Ooh La La" with fellow Mississippi troubadour Cary Hudson, and a haunting duet with Jaimee Harris of the Rolling Stones/Townes Van Zandt classic "Dead Flowers." In addition to that, Wolfe put out a 7-song album, titled "The Harvest" that showcased all Songs by L.H. Halliburton, a true unsung hero of Nashville songwriting (and Wolfe's father-in-law), and he was featured on the New West Records release "Can't Steal My Fire: The Songs of David Olney" - along Americana/Country luminaries like Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, The SteelDrivers, and more - with a smashing rendition of Olney's surreal love song from the perspective of an iceberg, "Titanic."
He's regularly toured the East Coast of the United States, from Mississippi to Maine. He is a fixture in the East Nashville avant-garde songwriter scene, hosting the annual GET BEHIND THE MULE: Tribute to Tom Waits Benefit Show, and hosting a monthly Full Moon showcase. He also has appeared at the Tropic of Cancer Festival in Todos Santos Mexico - sharing the bill with the likes of Cordovas, Andy Frasco, The Mother Hips, Brian Wright, Judy Blank, Susto and more - three of the last four years.
He's currently releasing his opus - a thirteen-song album, which will be released in November 2025 - one song at a time starting in December 2024, with the release of "Invocation" as the Sun went into Sagittarius. Thereafter, each time the Sun crosses into a new Constellation, a new track has been or will be released. This will coordinate with the ACTUAL movement of the Sun, rather than the tradionally-recognized Horoscopic Zodiac. It will culminate in the release of the title track of the album, and the entire album as a collection, titled "Ophiuchus" - named after the thirteenth Constellation. The Serpent Bearer, who now frames the Sun's path through our zeniths from November 30 through December 18.
In the meantime, he's also released a collaboration with veteran Nashville MC, Brian Brown, on a remix of his psychedelic bluesy trip hop Song "So Purple" remixed by Jack Vinoy.
Wolfe is only broadening and strengthening his anthology, with more collaborations, concepts and creations. Thank you for being interested in his Work.
