Songwriter and Producer
His parents: Spanish and Portuguese origins. His birthplace: France. The first foreign language he learned: English.
OBI-JUAN – also known as OBI-JUAN MEEGO – has a multi-cultural heritage and is a harmonious blend of traditions and customs, a multi-ethnic force to be reckoned with. His artist's name is a condensed form and it reflects his artistic influences: "OBI" - which means "belt" worn with both traditional Japanese clothing and uniforms for Japanese martial arts styles - and "JUAN" a famous first name given in Hispanic families. Tied together they form a homophone as a tribute to one of the most acclaimed and iconic character of the Star Wars franchise: Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Strongly passionate about Japanese media growing up, OBI-JUAN also likes anime such as Dragon Ball Z, the video game Resident Evil and horror films like Ring. He is also keen on European modern art with the magnificent symbolic works of Gustave Moreau or massive paintings representing Greek deities or even the bold cinema of American filmmaker and writer Quentin Tarantino. He has become fluent in English especially by reading the words of the songs printed in the booklets of CDs. In his collection, one can find albums of various artists ranging from Marilyn Manson to David Guetta, from Claude Debussy to Shania Twain or from Lara Fabian to Michael Jackson. Music is his source of learning but it is also one of his roots that feeds his personality whose cursor is halfway between the extrovert and the introvert, his source of courage.
It is after the death of the "King of Pop", his favorite artist, that OBI-JUAN realizes that you can do good around you by creating, that you can also believe in yourself to combine your imagination and your will to succeed to inspire and relieve others in turn taking them into a journey by listening to music.
The tracks that OBI-JUAN composes, writes, produces, mixes and masters are mapping a true musical passport. He considers himself a diplomat of melody, an ambassador of sound and a representative of rhythm with his exciting and powerful synthesizers, his rich and captivating drums and his surprising and hypnotic FX sound choices.
Moved and motivated by many of his idol's words such as "study the greats to become greater" or "less is more", he then draws his sonic strength from the culture forged by the traditional music shows done in the family (Portuguese folklore, Latin street concerts...), listening to hits with his parents in the car or on the radio (Top charting Pop hits, East & West Coast Hip-Hop, Japanese Metal...), his own other cultural discoveries on a screen or his visits to Parisian museums.
In short, OBI-JUAN is a dreamer who keeps his feet on the ground, is down-to-earth yet summoning on his creative flows. Many paradoxes tend towards a balance and this discipline and this audacity allow him to be quickly in tune with his music anthems that come to life in his home studio.
