"TAXI's claims to industry access are for real, folks."

Hit Songwriter Karen-Taylor Good has penned songs for Patty Loveless, Laura Brannigan, Collin Raye, Al Jarreau and many others. At the rally, she shared information about how songwriters can get their cuts placed by major artists.

Dear TAXI,

I'm not one for praising people for doing the job they're paid to do, but having just returned from my first Road Rally, I must say I was very impressed and pleased with the experience. It would have made coming all the way from Madrid, Spain worth the several hundred dollars most music conventions cost--only the Road Rally didn't cost me a dime, which I think is amazing.

It was very revealing to hear things straight from the horse's mouth (i.e., the industry heavy hitters on the panels)--I found most of what they said extremely useful and informative. The demo listening sessions were extraordinarily helpful in giving me a solid idea of where I stand in relation to my professional peers.

And if I had any doubts about TAXI's claims to giving industry outsiders access to industry insiders, they were cleared up as I waited in line at LAX for my flight back to Spain. Right there in the terminal stood Santana/Matchbox Twenty producer Matt Serletic, on his way to the CMA awards with Willie Nelson. I approached him and struck up a conversation, during which he informed me that TAXI had sent him material in the past, material he described as "very good stuff." Not one for missing a golden opportunity, I asked him, "So you can vouch for TAXI's credibility in terms of the high quality of material they send you?" The answer: "Oh yeah, definitely."

As if the Road Rally weren't enough already, this amazing chance encounter convinced me I've spent my money well: TAXI's claims to access are for real, folks. If one of the hottest producers around says so, then I'm ready to believe it. All you've got to do is make your music as good as it can be.

I'm heading back to the woodshed.

Dear Taxi,

We want to thank all of the TAXI staff, guest speakers and sponsors for putting on another outstanding Road Rally. After last year's Rally, we completely revamped our studio, current songs and way of thinking in order to rise to a level that would make us competitive. TAXI has been the biggest outside partner in that process. At this year's Rally, we were able to compare our songwriting (crafting), production and way of thinking, to that of other members and guest speakers. I am glad to say that we have arrived!!! Thanks to TAXI, we are at this point in our development years in advance of where we would be if we had done it alone. We hope to sign deals and be on the inside looking out by next year's Rally.

Sincerely,

Jon & Larry

Dear Michael and all the TAXI crew,

This was my first Road Rally. All the pre-publicity made it a must-go opportunity. And it was much more than I expected, which is saying something. The place was awash with music, guitars, great people and the fabulous TAXI staff.

And what a weekend. Just the opportunity to speak to A&R people (who really were very human after all) about what they needed, get some inside information on what direction to go in, and get some of the best advice I've ever had on how to improve my writing was worth ten times the cost of getting there.

So my advice to anyone planning to go to the Road Rally for the first time is: Go! It's addictive, it's the best opportunity you'll ever get, and it's fun, friendly and free! And, like me, you'll be back.

Dear Michael,

I would just like to say a giant thank you for this year's Rally. It quite literally changed my life. I went down with an open mind and heart after leaving a project I had been involved in for 17 years. I was basically a "blank slate." I found plenty to fill it up with. In the month since I was at the Rally I have collaborated 4 times with 3 people I met there, recorded a demo of the songs, and seen first hand what it really takes to get signed. Oh, and I met some fabulous new friends. Thank you so much. (Oh, and thanks for finding my glasses.)

Cheers,

Dear TAXI,

The TAXI Road Rally is one of the most valuable tools for a songwriter today. It is a great feeling being with so many industry professionals and peers in the same room, at the same time. The TAXI Staff is an incredible support system and they are always on your side. Aside from writing songs, joining TAXI is the most productive thing a songwriter can do.

It is the best investment songwriters can make for themselves.

On top of it all, The Road Rally is free, so the membership fee pays for itself!

Hello TAXI,

I attended the Road Rally this past weekend. I had read so many comments about how spectacular the Rally is, that I was worried about being let down--like hearing about "this amazing movie" over and over, only to finally see it and think it was only O.K. There was so much to take in at the Road Rally (my first) that it took a few days for everything to sink in (I'm sure it all hasn't hit me yet).

Despite my spinning head and skeptical outlook, I must thank you, TAXI, for delivering MORE than you promised in your advertising, and for somehow, magically, lighting that proverbial fire under my ass and inspiring me to work, work, work, open my mind, inspire me, and just plain fire me up.

You will see me next year. No question.

Thank you kindly.

Dear Michael & Road Rally Family,

This literally was physically, emotionally and spiritually the best time I have had in years.

I met folks that I will have a relationship with for years to come. Whether it be promoting songwriting, demo singing, lyric writing or the like, I was able to make individual contacts in every specific area. You cannot help but leave this weekend with increased knowledge, enthusiasm and delight.

Many of us played and shared from evening to early morn like a fireside showcase. It was flawlessly inspiring and completely humble and noncompetitive. I feel so very blessed to have been a part of this event and will not miss any in the future if I can possibly help it.

Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Cary Evan

Dear Taxi,

To everyone at TAXI, I'm still buzzing from my first Road Rally, almost a month later! Being able to put a face on the screeners, and to meet my fellow passengers and hear some of their work . . . even panels I thought would not be of interest to me were fascinating. You had my attention every waking hour of the event. It was well worth the expense of coming from Guam.

Thanks again for all your hard work putting this thing together. Hope to be back next year.

Doug,

Just a short note complimenting you on the superb job the TAXI folks did on this latest Road Rally.

It's an event for everyone who has truly committed to the creative path, in my view; the newcomer and the veteran. I've been in the entertainment business quite a while, so I'm a "combat" veteran when it comes to observing the successes and disappointments of others, as well as my own. I believe that your panelists are excellent in presenting the realities set before anyone who wants to succeed as an artist or a songwriter, or both. I guarantee you that I always learn something new at these events, in addition to recharging the creative batteries.

The emphasis and the ability with which you accommodate writers, artists, and producers all at the same time is highly commendable. I guess you guys are some kind of circus act. I don't know a lot of folks who could juggle all those elements and keep up appearances.

Keep up the good work, and thank you.

Dear Taxi,

Thank you so much for the Road Rally 2001. The songwriting seminars were incredibly helpful. I gained an understanding of composition that has always been lacking in my work. The rejections I have received before make a lot more sense now.

I am confident that my co-writer and I are going to produce a hit song in the next year, thanks largely to your continued help and support.

And it was free! You guys are amazing! The advice, instruction and exposure are worth thousands of dollars. And what a great group of people to hang out with, songwriters just like me!

Thanks so much.

Dear Taxi,

Had a BLAST at my first Road Rally. Abou (my drummer) and I had a great time. Getting to play Friday was an added bonus. Met tons of great musicians. Made lots of contacts. Got to get my CD Demo out to a lot of people. Great idea, great format. Love you guys.

Thanks for the inspiration,

Dear Taxi,

Thank you so much for another fantastic Road Rally. Much to my surprise this year was the best yet (I've been to all five). I am amazed how much new information I learn each year, and how many interesting people from all over the world I get to meet and hang out with. I can't wait to see you at the sixth one!

Dear Taxi,

The Road Rally was awesome! I went into it being at least a little cynical and came out VERY impressed!

Hi Taxi Staff,

Thank you guys for putting together such an amazing event. The Road Rally was a sobering, and, at the same time refreshing experience. The A&R panelists (and several other panelists) gave such straightforward feedback on what it really takes to make it in the biz that I feel more determined and focused than I did before the event.

Aside from this "tough love boost" a lot of the information was just really helpful.

Of course, the networking opportunities can't be beat--period. Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Nadja Geipert

Dear Taxi,

I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this year's Road Rally. As always, it exceeded my every expectation and gave me inspiration, but better still, knowledge.

Very truly yours,
