"I was at the Road Rally last weekend, and was extremely impressed! Thanks for making it one of the best and most informative weekends of my life."

"It was like a mini-Woodstock," raved members after jamming until the wee hours. Members from around the world met each other and collaborated all weekend.

Hey Chris,

Thank you for what was the best convention I've ever attended! Your Road Rally 2000 was a great service, and worth the membership fee alone! I came out of there with knowledge that I would never have acquired elsewhere (unless I committed to doing a lot of research on the various topics covered). My writing style will definitely change (for the better) after this convention. To meet fellow musicians from all over the world, and to hear from all the A&R folks, hit songwriters, and the many other guests/panelists that you had was a weekend in heaven! TAXI continues to amaze me with just how much they do for their members . . . you practically bend over backwards!!

Thanks again, and my commendations for a job well done!

Dear Michael,

I enjoyed the 2000 Road Rally immensely. It was my first opportunity to glean a personal idea of the true character of the TAXI staff and membership. Without reservation, it was every good thing I expected (and some that I didn't!)

Two words enter my mind after this past weekend: "Credibility" and "Potential." Your industry guests clearly understood TAXI to be a credible source of new and commercially viable talent. Lucky for me and 5,999 other people that you have worked so hard and risked as much as you have to accomplish this.

Dear Taxi,

The Road Rally 2000 was an excellent experience. I would recommend it to anybody who wants to get some insight into the music industry. Everyone at TAXI was extremely helpful and professional.

I have to admit; when I joined TAXI I was very skeptical. I have since discovered that you guys are everything you said you would be, and then some. I plan to be a TAXI member for a very long time.

Thank you,

Michael,

I am a flood of different emotions after the Road Rally. I am energized, overwhelmed, saddened, excited and confident . . . and more, and I couldn't wait until I get home from work to send you a thank you. I have been to the last three Road Rallies and I have a different "post rally" feeling this time. I felt saddened to be leaving to go home . . . I felt like I was "home." When we saw Michael Lederer (TAXI CFO) as we were leaving for the airport and he hugged me and told me how excited he was that we had a great time and learned so much, it really hit me how much all you guys at TAXI care about the members.

Please thank all of the panelists, they were really inspiring and their information, personal stories and tools will be invaluable in my development . . . all for free! Jason Blume is the Anthony Robbins of songwriters--what energy, knowledge, and a genuine motivator to be your best. Being from Detroit and growing up with all of those great songs of Motown, seeing and hearing the stories of Lamont Dozier was beyond description. I will have to work harder, and smarter, but I KNOW now that I can write better songs.

I don't really know how to thank you and the entire staff at TAXI for all of your hard work. All I can say is, "THANK YOU," and I will continue to spread the word about TAXI.

Sincerely,

John Hruska

Dear TAXI Staff:

We can't begin to express how much the 2000 Road Rally has changed our music writing lives. Every session featured true heavy-weight industry insiders, delivering clear direction and honest feedback. The TAXI staff was personal, professional and well-organized.

This was our first Road Rally and our first opportunity to really get a look at what industry insiders are looking for, and how our music stacks up with our writing peers. The results were humbling and motivating to us. We came with 6 song/demos, and left with 5 great songs that need a little more work to reach the new bar. Thanks for supplying the vehicle to help us SEE THE LIGHT!

I just came back from the TAXI Road Rally conference in L.A. and all I can say is: My God!! If you are a serious singer, songwriter, composer, or any mix of the previous, you need to check this service out and go to their Road Rally. Powerhouse panelists included hit songwriters/collaborators Lamont Dozier (Supremes' "I Can't Help Myself", Phil Collins' "Two Hearts"), Shelly Peiken (Meredith Brooks' "Bitch"), and handfuls of other top-notch creators. I should really list every panelist to fully express the amazing talent represented, but that would take up pages . . . visit the TAXI site and see for yourself . . .

If you liked my music before this weekend, I promise you that you will LOVE what I develop from this moment on. Yes . . . the conference was that valuable to my musical vision. It gloriously brought to life the reality of the music business in action: How A&R VPs at major labels listen to and judge submitted demos; What Publishing companies really do; What countless ways a songwriter or composer can make more money out of the same composition; How to craft your songs to surpass "good" and be rivetting, infectious, unforgettable. You can read about all of this in many good books (authors of several of the best books on these subjects were panelists at the Road Rally), but to experience it first-hand--audio and body language in all--is simply priceless.

I cannot stress more: if you want your music to be heard by the masses (and I mean Masses with a capital 'M') AND have your music support you. Join TAXI.

Hi Michael!

I just wanted to send a note to thank everyone at TAXI for making the Road Rally possible.

We had a great time again this year and gained more knowledge and contacts. We really appreciate that you put this on for your members and we will definitely spread the word where we can to let others know about it and TAXI.

Thanks again. All the best to all of you . . .

Dear Michael,

So what do you plan to do next year? I've been to all the Road Rallies, and this one was the best!!!

The entire weekend was so informative, and I came home with such a buzz, that I declined several invitations so that I could keep the buzz going as long as possible.

I loved that fact that several panelists glommed onto a song cassette, what with the songwriter sitting right there in the audience! What a thrill that must have been!

The level of the songwriting is often astonishing, and the talent displayed by some of the performers at the Open Mic was breathtaking. It will not be too long before just mentioning that one is a TAXI member will, of itself, open some doors--if it's not already the case.

The hotel was, as always, splendid in every way.

I still can't get over the Finale when Alesis gave away all that amazing equipment! A $1200 mic? My God! Those guys rule!

The calibre of everything about TAXI and the Road Rallies contiues to climb. I hope it never stops!

Love,

Roy Flower

Michael,

This year's Road Rally was simply incredible. I was so inspired and energized by it, and found the information I received to be so useful, that I immediately put it to work and wrote an entire country ballad on the plane trip home. This is significant because prior to the Road Rally I wrote only instrumental music.

The pitch panels were excellent, and illustrated precisely what A&R folks, libraries, and publishers are looking for. Best of all were the instructional sessions on the craft of songwriting, and especially the fantastic talks by Jason Blume and Ralph Murphy. I have in my notes a quote from Ralph, "[A songwriter's] gift is being able to reach into people's souls, pull out a nugget, and hand it back to them," and from Jason, "Put what is unique about you into your songs in a way that 30 million people can understand." Each in their own way, these two guys articulated very poignantly what hit songwriting is all about.

For me, though, the weekend all came together during the Publisher Pitch Panel when we heard TAXI member Pete Masitti's spectacular demo "When I See Your Smile." Not because the demo was so excellent (and it was), but because panelist Laura Becker told us she had heard that song many times before and it was getting better and better each time Pete submitted it. Laura's comment really drove home what it is TAXI does. TAXI is not just about helping members land a deal, it's about helping members make their songs so damned good that they can't be ignored.

Thanks for a truly great time. I intend to never miss another Road Rally.

Oh . . . and I'll be submitting that ballad for a critique soon.

Dear Taxi,

It's taken me several days to come down off my "Road Rally High" enough to send you some semi-composed thoughts on the matter. Excellent marks overall, especially the new addition from last year: The Song School Panel.

Another great plus was the Hit Songwriter's Panel. I thought it especially good that you put together a range of great writers with hits spanning several decades. On that note, one question I would have liked to have them address, was how great pros like themselves respond to the changes in the market. Obviously, there's quite a world separating Shelly Peiken's "Bitch" from Alan Rich's "I Don't Have The Heart" and I would be very interested to hear how these writers assess the market and try to keep current. Also, with someone like Dave Baerwald, who was part of that incredible 5 person Grammy Winning writing team from Sheryl Crow's debut album, we could have gotten a greater look into the intricacies of collaboration.

I imagine, now that you've spoiled us, you're going to have a similar all-star panel in years to come, so these might be questions worth considering. How you top Lamont Dozier, even with a Diane Warren, is a mystery to me. But thank you so much for getting him there. I, as well, filled with tears when I heard my childhood pass before my ears with all of those incredible songs he helped bring into the world and into our hearts. For that alone, the conference was a unique inspiration

Thanks again for a great week-end.

All The Best,

Dear Michael,

I confess: I have a TAXI problem.

I can't go a day without thinking about whether I should be submitting, and I eagerly check my mailbox for CD mailers returned with only a critique and/or a "Hey, your tape's been forwarded!" card. If I go too many days without either, my palms sweat and I begin hyperventilating . . .

And, just so you know, attending my first Road Rally this past weekend didn't help.

Sure, I expected to get a lot of useful information . . . and I wasn't disappointed. What surprised me, however, was coming home feeling so good about an organization I pay money to belong to.

I began suspecting it the few times I've visited the TAXI office and found people so friendly and upbeat. I got an even stronger feeling the day Alex took the time to call and tell me a big artist had put one of my songs on hold. The final straw, however, was attending the Road Rally and witnessing just how much you seem to care about your members. In this day and age, that seems like an almost unheard of quality in ANY company, let alone one involved with the highly competitive music business.

So, while I curse you for creating something for which at some point I'll probably have to attend a 12 step program to get under control (Taxiholics Anonymous), I have nothing but compliments for you and the staff for making such a nurturing and encouraging environment for the dysfunctional breed known as songwriter.

Best regards and thanks for making a great company.

Just wanted to thank you for a splendid weekend. Once again you guys brought together excellent panelists and you ran a great show.

To Michael & Staff,

I just want to take a moment and thank you for a most enjoyable and informative Road Rally. We really appreciate all your hard work in pulling off an event like that!!

The talent at the event was awesome . . . in the panels and the audience!

Thanks again,

Hey Doug,

Just a note to say thank you. When I came home from Road Rally 99, I just couldn't imagine it getting any better. But still, you managed to do just that at Road Rally 2000. My congratulations to you for doing such a fine job. And if you can't find anyone for your songwriters panel next year--bring back Lamont Dozier!!!! Hell, he could do a three-hour panel all by himself and we would be riveted!

Just got back from LA where I was at the TAXI Road Rally.

It's legit, folks. There were over 1000 people there and everybody that I talked to was extremely pleased with TAXI and the event.

I go to 15-20 music conferences every year and have yet to find one (besides the bluegrass conference) that has this sense of community among the musicians. People stayed up until late each night playing in the hotel lobby. Very cool scene.

Panels were a good mixture of business stuff and songwriting/technique topics.

Panelists were very approachable and did more than just plug their own products.

One of the coolest things I saw that I think every conference should do (for those that want it) is that boxes were set up for people to drop demos in. They were then mailed to the panelist, so nobody had to go home with a huge box of stuff.
