Russ was born in Los Angeles, CA. In his youth, growing up in the 1960’s he was heavily influenced by the musical and cultural explosion going on in L.A. After moving to Scottsdale, AZ in the 70’s, he played guitar in the High School Stage Band, Pop Vocal Choir and College Jazz Bands. It was during this same time period that Russ also began writing original music as well.
While attending college, he began playing out on the road, and paid his dues learning many of the ins and outs of the music business.
Russ also became interested in recording in the late 70’s, when he bought his first multi-track tape recorder. Learning how to program and arrange synthesizers, drums and bass as well, he began to record both his own original compositions, as well as those of others in the Phoenix area.
Russ currently resides in Phoenix and plays and writes a wide variety of music styles, from current & classic Rock and Country, to Standards and Jazz, Electronic & Orchestrated .
He has played guitar in well-known Arizona bands that have enjoyed popularity in the greater Arizona region, as well as numerous bands that traveled throughout the country.
His talent and expertise are well known in the valley and have helped earn him gigs opening for such artists as the Bellamy Bros., Tracy Lawrence, Jon Anderson, Tracy Bird and Steve Wariner, among others.
Russ also continues to write, arrange and record his own songs, as well as producing, arranging and engineering for other musicians and song writers in a multitude of musical genres.
The past number of years, Russ has also been recording his original music targeted for TV, Film and Commercial styles as well, something that he had started experimenting with in the 1980's, and has since honed extensively.
