Richard Carr

Music creative & contemporary pianist /keyboardist Richard Carr is currently living in the Monterey Bay area. Prior to living in Monterey Bay, Richard spent 12 years in his native St. Louis MO teaching and performing throughout the Midwest. Prior to that, Carr spent 10 years living in the New Orleans French Quarter, where he began his recording career after honing his harmonic and rhythmic vocabulary into his improvisational creative approach to music.

Carr’s concerts frequently begin with a new creation/improvisation. Richard believes that this approach permits the passion and emotion of his music to come front and center. This approach is also used extensively in the recording studio. The majority of his creations fit in the New Age solo instrumental healing & transformational music genre. Having toured extensively in the Midwest and Deep South of the US, Carr has developed a fan following both online and in the concert-going circuits.

Having 14 studio-based albums (12 solo piano, 1 synth-based, 1 collaboration w/Native American flutist), Richard has developed his own style and sound. Carr's last studio album, Matters of Balance was co-produced with legendary Windham Hill Records founder, Will Ackermann. Ten of Carr's fourteen studio albums have reached the New Age radio Top 100 charts, with five of them reaching the Top 10 (four in the Top 5). His current project, Sounds of Monterey Bay, is slated for release in late 2021.

Since May 1, 2011, and ending August 31, 2021, Richard had been working on his Year of Music project. A new unreleased creation or LIVE concert recording was posted online each day. These creations drew from the last 15+ years of Richard’s creative activity. Each creation was recorded in real-time with no edits or layering of tracks. Originally it was begun as a way to permit others to hear his existing unreleased catalog. Once the project had begun, creativity took over and the project began to feature newly created music every day. With 3600+ Daily Doses from the Year of Music project, Richard began creating digital albums from the Year of Music project. Since October 2017, Richard has released 12 digital-only albums. These albums feature either solo piano or solo synth albums with all tracks created in real-time without any edits.

Aware of the meditative quality of his music, Richard has been exploring the healing side of his music. Working in the holistic community of St. Louis, Richard has developed the I AM Manifesting Sessions. These sessions are personal sessions in which Richard creates music for the client’s intention or focus. In essence, he creates a soundtrack for the intention. These sessions can be done either in person, online, or by phone.

Richard was the Artist in Residence and Co-Director of the Midwest Music Conservatory in the St. Louis area for 8 years.
