Ragamuffs are a quirky duo of goons from Honolulu, Hawai'i officially formed in April 2016.
Hailey Fines and Joseph Carag met as little kiddos, both having different musical backgrounds. Over the years, family and church functions got them to perform acoustic sets together. Realizing their overlap in peculiar musical influences, they were driven to break exposure into the Honolulu music scene, playing feel-good indie rock/bedroom pop. Some of their influences include Hippo Campus, Arctic Monkeys, Ingrid Michaelson, and San Cisco.
It wasn’t until late 2017 when their musical trek began to find momentum, playing shows each month as a 4-piece band and writing original songs. By the summer of 2019, a successful Kickstarter funded their debut 7 song EP, "Achy Luminescence." Just before the release, they went on their first DIY tour in California.
Below are some of their most notable accomplishments.
In 2020, they have released (2) music videos, placed their song “Sunset Chaser” in a Zippy’s commercial, and appeared in a collaboration with Kingdom Purpose. They’ve also had a local sponsorship with Goodwill Hawaii and Kope Sope and won a local contest to write a jingle for a wedding ring shop. In 2019, they also toured California and got to play at the infamous Hotel Cafe while collaborating with SoFar Los Angeles, referred by SoFar Honolulu. In early 2020, they were interviewed on KHON and KITV for their placement in SXSW 2020.
Ragamuffs placed top 3 in the UNDSCVRD X contest and have recently submitted their application for the Vans “Musicians Wanted” competition supported by Anderson Paak along with sending over their Tiny Desk performance. They also started 2020 with opening up for Mac DeMarco and the Unlikely Candidates at the famous venue The Republik. Currently they’re looking to do more live streams with the likes WishBus LA and Propeller USA.
Late 2019, their songs “Lainey Lainey” and “Sunset Chaser” were placed on Spotify editorial playlists: Feel-Good Indie Rock, Fresh Finds, Woman Don’t Cry, and DopeAF. So far, “Lainey Lainey” has reached over 325,000 streams and “Sunset Chaser” has reached over 1.4 million streams on Spotify alone.
On October 23, 2020 they released a new single called “Used to Be” and it placed on the Spotify editorial playlist “Indie Palace” within 12hrs of release. Other notable playlists that have featured out song are: Mahogany, BIRP, SamFisherMusic, IndiePancake, and Alex Rainbird Music. After one month, they’ve already reach 13,000 streams on Spotify!
