Ragamuffs from Honolulu, Hawai'i officially formed in April 2016. Ragamuffs initially started as a duo then later became a solo project with remaining member, Hailey Finesse.
Hailey Fines and Joseph Carag met as little kiddos, both having different musical backgrounds. Over the years, family and church functions got them to perform acoustic sets together. Realizing their overlap in peculiar musical influences, they were driven to break exposure into the Honolulu music scene, playing feel-good indie rock/bedroom pop. Some of their influences include Hippo Campus, Arctic Monkeys, Ingrid Michaelson, and San Cisco.
It wasn’t until late 2017 when their musical trek began to find momentum, playing shows all over O'ahu each month as a 4-piece band and writing original songs. By the summer of 2019, a successful Kickstarter and a few fundraiser shows helped them raise over $10,000 to fund their debut 7 song EP, "Achy Luminescence." Just before the release, they went on their first DIY tour in California playing at venues such as The Moroccan Lounge, Hotel Cafe, and Sofar Sounds Los Angeles.
Below are some of their most notable accomplishments.
Late 2019, their songs “Lainey Lainey” and “Sunset Chaser” were placed on Spotify editorial playlists: Feel-Good Indie Rock, Fresh Finds, Woman Don’t Cry, and DopeAF. So far, “Lainey Lainey” has reached over 365,000 streams and “Sunset Chaser” has reached over 1.7 million streams on Spotify alone.
They started 2020 opening up for Mac DeMarco and The Unlikely Candidates at the famous Hawaii venue, The Republik. Soon after, they were interviewed on KHON and KITV as 1 of 3 Hawaii musicians accepted into SXSW 2020. They later, released (2) music videos, placed their song “Sunset Chaser” in a Zippy’s commercial, and appeared in a collaboration with Kingdom Purpose. They’ve also had a local sponsorship with Harbors Vintage, Goodwill Hawaii, and Kope Sope and won a local contest to write a jingle for a wedding ring shop. Recently, they put on high quality live streams with WishBus LA and Propeller USA, and placed top 3 in the UNDSCVRD X contest. They look forward to teaming up with Happin in the future to put on more high quality live streams, as they further their music career in Seattle, WA.
On October 23, 2020 they released a new single called “Used to Be” and it placed on the Spotify editorial playlist “Indie Palace” within 12hrs of release. Other notable playlists that have featured their songs are: Mahogany, BIRP, SamFisherMusic, IndiePancake, and Alex Rainbird Music. After one month, they’ve already reach 13,000 streams on Spotify!
