James was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and at a very young age began making very loud music in very loud bands. He will be eternally grateful for having the kind of parents who would actually tolerate all that racket in their basement.
As time went by, James began to focus more and more on music composition & production. After a circuitous journey creating music for Radio, TV, Advertising, and Independent Films, James found himself in LA working alongside composers John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams. He has had his music included in over 35 feature films including “How To Train Your Dragon”, “Kung Fu Panda”, “The Bourne Identity”, “The Bourne Ultimatum”, the “Shrek” films, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe”, “X-Men: The Last Stand” and “Team America: World Police”.
Seeking a slightly less stressful life where he could compose and still actually see his family once in a while, James now writes music mainly for his own projects and for a variety of film, television and other uses that don’t involve impossible deadlines, endless changes, and staying up for days on end. He loves writing for orchestra, for electronics, for guitar, and for anything else that seems like it might involve fun and profit. He is also mysteriously drawn to writing music that is a bit retro, quirky, or otherwise offbeat.
His music has been heard on all the major networks and cable channels as well as on projects originating all over the world.
James currently lives in Orange County, CA with his wonderful wife and two no-good, pesky, troublemaking kids.
