Paula McMath’s third CD, "Trust the Sky", was reviewed by Paul Zollo, Senior Editor of American Songwriter, who says, “It resounds like the work of a mature, experienced singer-songwriter…. like Laura Nyro, Carole King, and others who wrote inimitable masterpieces from the very start, Paula is a prodigiously gifted singer-songwriter who has taken her inherent abilities and soared with them.”
McMath is currently polishing ten songs — for her fourth CD, "Totems", an intimate exploration of family, loss, and the work of songwriting.
John Allan and Paula McMath are two halves of the dark Americana band "Moonshine Poetry". They are completing an upcoming EP.
Songs from earlier works, "Because We Bleed", and "Mud Flap Girl" landed placements in TV, film, and academia. McMath has been featured in Music Connection’s year end "Top 25 New Music Critiques" and has landed on their list of "LA’s Hot 100 Unsigned Artists". John Pozer, Cannes award-winning Writer-Director of "The Grocer’s Wife" says, “Wonderful. Reminiscent of Joni — and there couldn’t be a better compliment.”
“Paula McMath is writing and performing at a very high level. It has been my honor to have worked with her in several master classes. I can always count on her to have a wonderful song to begin with, and to be able to execute changes quickly and effectively. She is a joy to work with — a real pro.” Pat Pattison, professor of Lyric Writing and Poetry, Berklee College of Music.
Brooks Arthur, multi-Grammy award-winning producer-engineer to Adam Sandler, Janis Ian, and Robin Williams — among others, is in pre-production for a children’s album with McMath. The work will include the launch of a children’s song and online-video project, "Very Happy Day", which centers around the eve of a child’s birthday. The song is co-written with Ian Hattwick, performed with Tom Freund, and illustrated by Pip Craighead. The accompanying videos were digitally prepared by Cory James.
McMath lives in Santa Monica. She was born in Canada, in the city of Windsor, and was raised in nearby small town Kingsville, Ontario. She is a proud "Canalifornian" — a citizen of both the United States and Canada.
