James Barruol

French/British musician/singer/song writer currently based in France. My passion for music began as a toddler when I was given a plastic, toy keyboard for my birthday; I would spend hours entertaining myself and singing along to my strange melodies. Luckily, I later learnt the fundamentals of music theory through clarinet lessons which I started when I was 7 years old. This led to piano lessons for 2 years and then I taught myself the guitar, bass and saxophone when I was a student in England. Born in 1997, I grew up in rural Southern France but eventually went to school in the UK when I was 14 and then later worked and studied in Spain where I developed my love for fun, upbeat melodies which can be found in some of my compositions.
I love all music genres but my influences are often Jacob Collier, The Beatles, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, etc... My first EP "Save the World" was written and recorded during the pandemic lockdown when we were all forced into reflecting on life, relationships and the world in general. The style is eclectic and the lyrics often nostalgic, reminiscent of parts of my life pre-Covid. My next EP will be more pop based although I am also exploring new sounds and genres which I hope will open up some new opportunities in the music world.
