Many of our competitors try to claim they helped this musician or that get a deal, often when they had nothing to do with it. We want to let you know right up front that we had nothing directly to do with this, but we think it's a really cool story.
Gabriel Saientz gives TAXI credit for helping him get SOME deals and also for helping him get ready for the major leagues, but the "Regis and Kelly" grand theme song was his talent working for him, not a TAXI connection. His win landed him an appearance on the show, as well $100,000.
Gabriel also reports that he was extremely happy to see Jennifer Aniston during his appearance on the show, and she is "hot." Your fellow members (at least the guys) are probably a little envious on that score!
Winning the contest isn't the only thing Gabriel has going for him. Here's his story. He went to Universal of Miami and got a bachelor's degree in studio and Jazz performance. After he got out of school, he played gigs and wanted to learn how to produce his own music. So, he bought a Digi 001. Then, he saw an ad for TAXI and liked the idea of looking at the listings and picking listings he could write for. He started writing and submitting songs, but didn't get any forwards at first.
"I read the critiques and I mostly agreed with them. I took the feedback and kept refining my skills until one day I got a forward.... WOW!!! I was so happy! I kept going because I never heard back from that particular music library," he said.
After a few more forwards, Gabriel got a call from another Film/TV publisher saying he liked one of his smooth Jazz songs and wanted to hear more. "I started writing and writing and writing and asking my musicians friends for favors (since I was broke) and I promised them that if I ever got money from those songs, that I would pay them for the sessions (which I did)," he said.
Most of the songs were placed and they are still playing in MUZAK. He also got a couple of songs placed in "All My Children," through yet another publisher he connected with through TAXI.
"I wanted to thank TAXI because I know your feedback and your service played a big part in what I have accomplished so far. Also, maybe my story will inspire others to keep trying even when things look like they are never gonna happen," he said.
We think that's great advice Gabriel. Many TAXI members get frustrated if they don't find instant success. We always tell them to use the feedback and keep pitching, but hearing it from you might give them even more encouragement than hearing it from us!
