If you were to write a ballad about your hometown, what would it say? That's what TAXI member Sandra Robinson had to figure out when she decided to enter the Get Writing ballad competition.

For the contest, Get Writing teamed up with the BBC drama musical Blackpool. the popular show based on the seedy side of life in the United Kingdom's most famous seaside resort. In the show, many songs are played that depict the town. The contest called for writers to create ballads based on their hometowns.

Sandra wrote "Oh Beer Rich, Beer Sweet Midlands Town," and was chosen as one of four winners. "I was thrilled, because it was a high profile competition via national radio and TV. I had been long listed, then short listed, then informed I was a winner on a Saturday morning," she said.

As a prize, Sandra's ballad will be set to music and performed on the United Kingdom's Radio 2's Mark Radcliffe Show.

Sandra has been a TAXI member since September 2004. "I think TAXI wakes you up to just how many different opportunities for placing our music there are out there, and that you must work on all elements of the production, not just your main strength," she said.
