Bio (Switch)

Jacqueline Grace

Jacqueline Grace is a 22-year-old San Diego-based singer/songwriter who attributes her influences to her Filipino/Mexican heritage as well as artists like Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Gloria Estefan and Lea Salonga. The result is songs of rhythmic and melodic collusion, music that moves listeners with ensnaring music and meaningful lyrics. Jacqueline Grace’s debut album is a compilation of songs whose shared dynamic is that of direction. Jacqueline showcases her unique songwriting by creating vignettes specific to each track. From the enraged “Detox,” to the deceptive “Pandora’s Box,” Jacqueline’s wit of word and compelling vocals motivate the listener to become further engrossed in the music, to feel the emotion of each protagonist. With songs “So Far,” and “I’m Whole,” Jacqueline incorporates her own style into mainstream rhythms. Spanish tracks “Contigo En Mi Vida,” and “Baile De La Luna,” offer glimpses into what Jacqueline hopes to pursue further in her career.

Jacqueline’s future aspirations are to gain better footing in the Spanish songwriting, and also to master Tagalog and write songs as better representation of her Filipino roots. Ultimately, she hopes to write, record, and perform pop music with various cultural influences, producing songs that will stand out as well as unify. “Regardless of Race, Color or Creed, music moves this planet,” she says. “By producing a sound with such a mixture of influences, I hope to influence more than alienate. I want people to listen to my songs and be encouraged to look into other kinds of sound, and perhaps become inspired themselves in more ways than one.”

Reviews

TAXI® recently had this to say about her music (the song DETOX): “A surprising blend of hip-hop, dance with a pop-rock edge. (Gwen Stefani meets Janet/Michael Jackson?) You are … an old soul, which is a compliment/testament to the ageless wisdom conveyed in your lyrics. Each line (is) so intensely rhythmic that when you hit the pre-chorus it just continues to soar with melody winding up with your extremely catchy and melodic chorus release.” “The overall presentation is really pro looking and sounding. Strong melodies throughout. I still wanted to sing along even though I couldn’t quite grab all the lyrics. Good job at conveying your ideas in a way I'm sure quite a few can relate to - strong, convincing vocal.”

The song “REGRET” was nominated for the “The 17th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards” in the Pop Song category (2007).
